PTA NEWS:
The PTA would like to offer a huge THANK YOU to Tanya Poirier-Hamilton and all of the volunteers who made our annual Family Halloween Dance a big hit! A huge thank you goes to Luke Bishop of DJ Rewind Productions for the amazing music and light-show, as well as to the
following donors for their much appreciated contributions: Buck & Near, Porter's Lake Toulaney’s, Lake & Shore Community Recreation Center, Superstore, Cole Harbour Place, Walker’s Livestock Feed & Supplies, AP Reid, Stephanie Lohnes Peskett, Eastern Esthetics Ltd, and MaryAnn’s Gifts!
There will be another Fluoride Training Session offered on Nov. 3 rd at 9am in the Cafeteria for anyone interested in volunteering with the Fluoride Program. Please contact the school if you are able to offer your time!
If you indicated in September your interest in volunteering at school events, and have completed all your necessary paperwork, you may be contacted by our PTA Volunteer Coordinators to help with the upcoming Fall Book Fair, the Christmas Dinner for students, and the Christmas Bazaar. The students love these yearly events and it takes many hands to ensure their success!
During the 2016/17 school year, funds raised through the efforts of the PTA and its volunteers will be delegated towards upgrading the sound
system in the gymnasium, replacing and increasing the seating options in the library as well as adding additional shelving space, and the continued contribution to the Teacher Request Fund.
LOST & FOUND: If you notice that your child or children are missing any of their belongings, please feel free to come look through our lost and
found box in Centre Court. By the end of this week, any remaining items will be donated to charity.
NO CHILD WITHOUT: Medic Alert is free for students between the ages of 4 and 14. If you are paying for this service or are interested in applying please view the following web site: http://www.nochildwithout.ca/
INCLEMENT WEATHER: In the event of severe weather schools may decide to close part way through the school day. This will be announced
on most radio stations and posted on the HRSB website. Before we dismiss children we are required to contact families or emergency contacts by
phone. We would ask that families please keep emergency dismissal information current and update when necessary by contacting your homeroom teacher(s).
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER—Well ...the time has come when we should expect the weather to turn cold. Please ensure that your children
leave the house with the proper gear (hats, mitts, gloves, snow pants, boots, etc).
DROP-OFF ZONE— Drivers using our morning Drop Off Zone are reminded to please wait in line until the zone is clear before moving forward. Pulling out of the
zone and passing a vehicle unloading students could potentially cause serious injuries or accidents in the parking lot. We would also ask that students exit vehicles on
the passenger side so as not to be opening car doors on the traffic side of the parking lot.
NO PARKING ZONE: Please be advised that there is absolutely no parking permitted (even for a brief period) in the spot directly beside and to the right of the
marked handicap parking in front of the school. This small area is very close to the curb, and needs to remain clear of vehicles at all times in order for buses and
emergency vehicles to get by.
LICE: With the school year back into full swing now, comes the likelihood of lice break-outs from time to time. According to Public Health,
“School age children should be checked daily during an outbreak, after sleepovers, and on a weekly basis throughout the year”. By working together, we can hopefully avoid the spread of these nasty little visitors. If you would like information for the treatment of head lice, please contact
the school or contact Public Health at 902-889-2143.
SAFE ARRIVAL: If your child will be absent for any reason (illness, late arrival, away, etc.), we ask that you please call the school (902-827-4112)and leave a
message with your child’s classroom teacher prior to 7:45 am. If you have to call after 7:45 am, please call the school office at extension 2. It is important we receive
this information, especially for students arriving late. This will avoid the school calling home and work numbers and leaving messages that may cause some concern.
