We went skiing on Monday at Mt Baldy.
We had a blast. There were lots of smiles
as well as successes in the end. Mt Baldy is
offering special activities during Spring
Break. Check out their website.
Please Note…
100's Day was filled with
counting activities, necklace building,
looking 'old,' "I told you 100 times' writing
and 100 trail mix. Thank you for sending
along 100 snack bits for our class trail
mix.
Mount Baldy is planning
some events over the
break. Check out
what’s happening at

Scent Free Reminder
Please remember that WBES is
a scent free school.
Many people are extremely
sensitive to perfumes, colognes,
aftershaves and other scented
products. Please refrain from
wearing them at our worksite.
Recognition Assembly was held on
Wednesday. It was great to see the
students having fun with different
activities that were offered.
Student led conferences were held
Wednesday too. If you did not get in to
school to check out your child's portfolio
of learning then please stop by when you
get a chance after Spring Break.
Hopefully you and your child have set
some new goals for Term 3.
Have a great and safe Spring Break - rest
and relax and read! See you back on
Monday April 3.

My Class
Basketball Teams
Spring break is here! We have completed term
2 successfully with lots of growth being shown
in all competency areas. Students have been
given the spelling bee words for studying for
the upcoming spelling bee in Greenwood
May.4. We see the start of track and field in
athletics and most gym classes will be devoted
to this effort to prepare grade 4-7 students for
the outdoor track meets. I wish all families a
very enjoyable holiday and see you all in April.
The Dance
The winter dance went off without a hitch last
night! Thank you to all parents and teachers
for the support for such a fun evening of
dancing. Looking forward to the summer
dance already.
The boys and girls basketball teams finished a
very exciting season. The boys had a big turn
out this year and had fun with Mr. Burke. The
girls also had a big turn and had a
fantastic season. The girls after getting blown
away by Christina Lake showed their mental
toughness and skill in the district tournament
only losing out to Christina Lake by 4
points. A big thank you to Ashley Spring
(Moline) for coaching the girls with Mr. O in
support.
Congratulations to all teams!
Grade 7
Mrs. Lautard
Students have learned about circumference and area of circles, and then were
able to put this knowledge to use on Tuesday when they built mini-drums
with Elder, Mrs. Joan Holmes, and Ginette Wheeler. It was a fun morning
and students should be bringing their creations home today.
Students have been very busy in Language Arts. They finished their fifth
novel for the Great Book Debate and will be bringing book #6 home to read
over spring break. We will be having in-school debates the week of April
20th, with the championship debates happening on April 27th. Students have
also now created their blogs and will be writing on them after the break.
Once they have their first post up, parents will be able to access the blog(s)
to read the work.
Happy Spring Break!
Grade 5/6/7
Mr. Burke & Mrs. Lautard
Students have been working
hard on creating signs for
Kettle River Campground
and/or WBES’s Nature
Trail/Garden. This unit will
continue once we are back
from spring break. In Science,
students completed a unit on
flight and wind, culminating in
an activity with parachutes and
toy soldiers. Students will now
be participating in
environmental education with
Mr. Burke, with a focus on
outside activities.
Grade 5
Mr. Burke
What a busy couple of last
week’s we've had! Despite all
the interruptions and special
events, the grade fives have
managed to persevere in their
work. We have wrapped up
our poetry unit nicely and will
be looking forward to starting
a brand new unit after the
break. In math we finally got
through the 5.1 book and have
taken on the first unit of 5.2,
which is patterns and algebra.
I'm hoping that everyone has a
wonderful spring break! Relax,
read, enjoy the spring weather,
and come back refreshed and
ready for term three!!
Grade 6
Ms. Bragg
Math: we’ve started the next Jump Math book and students were introduced to another way to solve
double digit multiplication-using a windowpane. After Spring break, our intention is to add in some fun
games to help students develop greater fluency with their basic multiplication facts. Our Math PBL
presentations have concluded and we were thankful that Mr. Burke’s class was such an attentive
audience.
Language Arts: we are finishing reading our last novel for the Great Book Debate over Spring Break.
Students after the break will have read an astonishing six grade level novels and begin to prepare for
the in-school and district debates in April.
Socials 5-7: We have finished our inquiry project into map making and hopefully you had a chance to
see the variety of map types that came from our class displayed in the WBES hallways. As we take on
term three we have the addition of Mr. Burke into our classroom schedule. Mr. Burke has a background
in political science and with the upcoming provincial election he has agreed to help us increase our
understanding of politics and elections.
Science 5-7: Our unwanted invasive plant species posters went up on our bulletin boards and some
students also took on the challenge of creating signs for the Kettle Valley Campground around at-risk
species and fire ecology. Our next adventure tackles creating signage for our WBES nature trail that
identifies the species in our outdoor area and also our upcoming garden.
Art: We’ve started a small unit in art on creative mindfulness. We began our unit looking at Shane
Koyczan’s video called ‘Instructions for a Bad Day’ followed by a brief discussion into how to deal when
you have a bad day. Our art task uses their own image and asks them to create imagery around ‘what
would happen if you had a bad hair day?’ We will be using zentangles, doodles, and using art as a way
of reducing stress through repetitive actions.
Outdoor Education: As we say a fond farewell to Mrs. MacDonald in our outdoor adventures we
welcome Mr. Burke into our class. Since the weather is becoming more delightful with each passing day
students are advised to prepare to spend more time outdoors and to bring the appropriate footwear
and gear for more outdoor adventures.
