Maybe you need a little guidance to get there. Learn from a 50 year veteran of guitar how to play advanced chord inversions, improvisational lead, learning a song by ear and more. Most musical students reach plateaus in learning and just need a little Inspiration to help them grow. Required to have a quality acoustic guitar with fresh strings and a willingness to listen and practice. Animals, Animals, Animals - 212 Have fun learning basic techniques while you draw, paint and sculpt your favorite animals and creatures! Draw cartoon and realistic animals with pencil, oil pastels, colored pencils and markers. Use acrylics, ink and sculpt clay as you paint and sculpt animals of your choice. Art Can Be Anything - 242 Use your imagination and a variety of fun techniques to create drawing, collages, paintings and sculptures. Have fun exploring the world of art! The possibilities are endless! Art Explosion! - 202 Young artists explore their creativity with an explosion of fun art materials and projects! Students will paint, sculpt, draw, glue and more during this exciting class. Please have your child wear an old shirt or paint smock to class. The Art of Harry Potter Mini Camp - 145 If you are a fan of the Harry Potter books or movies you will love this class. Come expecting to be sorted into houses and work hard to win the house cup! Create your own wands and wand boxes, brew up some interesting potions, make spell books, attend Care of Magical Creatures class, sculpt your favorite creature, visit Honey Duke’s Sweet Shop, plant something interesting in herbology and lots more! Class will include new projects not offered before. Battle Twilight -- 214 Here it is. Sleepy Hollow’s own version of the epic battle between Vampires and Werewolves! In this class, students will be learning basic stage combat safely and the differences between fighting like a vampire, and fighting like a werewolf. Each child will have the opportunity to try both versions, so when it comes down to it, they’ll know whether they are Team Edward or Team Jacob! Beads, Bracelets and Necklaces - 141 Designs for T-Shirts - 340 How fun to create your own special designs on your t-shirts? Students create what they want to say on their t-shirts and learn how to print their designs using silk screen printing techniques. Doodle, Draw, Design! - 112 Explore basic drawing skills with pencil, marker, oil pastels, colored pencil and charcoal. Doodle from your imagination, Draw what you see and Design something new! Drawing Cartoons and Comics - 232 Cartoons can be anything –people, animals, food or objects! Have fun and explore simple ways to use your imagination to create your own cartoon characters. Drawing Exotic Animals - 100 Duct Tape Art - 251 Duct tape can be used for everything and anything…why not make some art with it? Learn how to make fun and functional works of art from this common material. Fun Creations For Your Room - 315 The Circus - 301 Inspired by Nature - 302 Creative Tie-Dye & Shibori - 130, 240 Learn the basics of how to tie-dye fabric and also the wonderful art of Japanese Tie-Dye Shibori. In addition to dying t-shirts, students learn exquisite ways of dying fabric for a beautiful wall hanging. Students need to bring a 100% cotton t-shirt for the first day of class. * This class is all about creativity and letting your imagination and interpretation go wild. We will make connections to Music and Art and how they reflect the world in which we live. Explore painting with a 3-foot brush, a sponge, a fly swatter or even a marble. Musical Theater Vocal Techniques - 213 Bring a song to life! Constructive coaching will help with the interpretation and delivery of a show tune of your choice. Nature Art - 250 Participants will gather outdoor items to use in this collage class. We will make leaf prints, collage art pieces and sculptures using rocks, twigs, acorns and other natural materials. Have fun learning basic and more adventurous techniques with acrylic, watercolors and ink. Spray, brush, drip or swat color on with a variety of brushes and tools. Experience realistic and abstract painting. Self expression is encouraged! Every Geisha has her accessories to complete her outfit and in this class students will have fun painting their own umbrella, chop sticks and fan They will have the unique opportunity to wear a Kimono and experience a Japanese Tea Ceremony.* The Hunger Games: Acting Workshop - 203 This is a beginning drawing class for those interested in developing their drawing skills. Graphite and charcoal will be used to learn basic drawing techniques. Drawing is the foundation of all art making. Line, value, texture and creativity will be emphasized. The class will look at weather patterns and how colors tell stories or give clues on climate conditions. Open Paint Studio - 341 Glass Etching - 140, 220, 310 Every child loves the circus and most artists throughout the ages have been inspired by the energy of it. Participants will learn some basic painting and drawing techniques to help them design their art of what the circus means to them. Have fun learning the power of language without “saying” a word. Participants will earn the basics of mime, telling stories through facial expression and body language by employing creativity and self-expression! Sculpey Clay is a soft polymer clay that comes in a variety of colors. Once molded it can be baked solid in a regular oven. This class will allow students to explore all the possibilities of this fun clay. They will learn basic building techniques in creating animals, small pots, people and miniatures as well as more adventurous techniques in creating useable works of art with sculpey like pens, dice, game pieces and magnets. Lady Gaga is a fashion and music icon. In this class you will learn about Lady Gaga’s fashion and how to create your own bizarre look by making a hat that represents YOU. There will also be fabulous dancing daily while using beautiful, colorful scarves and Lady Gaga’s EPIC hits to express yourself! Come to the Orient through learning to paint on a Kimono and Obi made especially for you. Students learn to paint on fabric while learning about the Japanese culture and the beautiful Kimonos that they will wear during a special Tea Ceremony. Only requirement is when you register, please include your size. * Lions, Tigers and Bears Gone 3-D - 131 The Marvelous Mime - 151, 243, 332 Let’s splash and splatter outside the borders. Students will experiment with different types of paint and other unique materials for painting. This is a great class for self-expression. Fun with Sculpey Clay - 122 Born this Way; Lady GaGa Camp ( 2 hours a day) - 316 You’re all heard of Sleepy Hollow Theatre, but do you know the legend behind the name? What better way of learning a great story than by making your own puppets and telling the tale yourself. Kids make their own puppet versions of the main characters, build their own puppet theatre and perform his or her version of the story at the end of the week! Grab your scissors and your glue and come have some fun with good o’ Ichabod and the Headless Horseman too! Dripping, Splattering and Splashing - 101 Blue Horses, Pink Cows and Red Grass - 321 Learn a variety of simple ways to create different styles of handmade books like scrolls, soft covers, hard covers and mini books. Then transform your book into a personal work of art with embellishments, drawings, illustrations and writing! Legend of Sleepy Hollow - 303 The class will learn basic sculpting techniques using air-dry clay to sculpt an animal of their choice. We will look at basic shapes and learn to form them into critters of the wild. The class will make friendship bracelets and necklaces from manufactured beads as well as making beads from sculpey clay. Bookmaking - 102 Wanted: Girls and boys of the high sea to join in for a week of creative mischief-making with Capt. Red Anne Flint and First Mate Blind Beard. Once given new pirate names and crew positions (think Jack Sparrow!), make maps, messages in a bottle, create ship sculptures, transform treasure chests, make pirate jewelry, sculpt and draw pirate related art and more! * Older students taking class will have the option to take projects in their own directions. Students learn how to draw wildlife beautifully! Students select animals that they want to capture in beautiful colored pencil. This class is for the beginner student, ages 4 and up and their first opportunity to put their art in an art show. Use your creativity to craft fun things to bring life to your room! Create your own bulletin boards, unique storage containers, picture frames, wall decorations and more! Class includes some new projects not offered last year. Participants will learn basic painting techniques with acrylic and tempera paint. The class will look at the expressive work of the Fauves for inspiration and add bright and bold color to their subject matter. Emphasis will be on creativity and selfexpression. Subject matter will be landscapes or animals Is the Pirates Life for You? - 345 Create wonderful glass designs by etching glass. Students will make a small window ornament and etch a mirror tile. Students also bring in glasses or other objects to etch which can serve a functional purpose and still be fun. Come and learn the art of survival, or at least the art of surviving improvisation acting! The theme of the week will be based on the popular book series “The Hunger Games,” and the end of the week will culminate in our version of the games themselves through playing theatre games. So come and play with us, and of course “may the odds be ever in your favor!” The natural world around us has so much to teach. Use and collect things from nature to create art with during the week. Learn ways to paint and draw the trees outside, landscapes, flowers and birds. Sculpt or collage something interesting with natural materials. Supplies are provided but feel free to bring any rocks, twigs, feathers, shells or other natural items you have collected to use as well. Introductory Guitar Lessons - 152 If you have always wanted to play the guitar, now is your chance! Learn the basics of everything from tuning, chords, changing strings, to playing a song. We will explore the first position chords of C-A-G-E-D. Does that spell a word? Learn about the caged music theory of the guitar. Required to own a quality acoustic guitar with fresh strings and a sincere desire to learn and practice. The class will look at various styles of paintings throughout history. Basic painting techniques will be taught and students will be allowed to explore subject matter and what style they wish to paint in. Painting abstract to realistic will be the focus of the class. Painting Studio - 222 Painting Super Heroes - 300 Students learn how to draw their Super Heroes and then how to paint those images. This class raises self confidence in their art skills by teaching them new techniques of painting. Playing for the “Play!!” - 142 ,233, 351 Have fun acting and learning character development by exploring voice, stage movement, miming, improvisation and much more. Participants will learn many tools for creating strong and memorable characters for the stage. Wonderful for all ages of children who have great imaginations from playing pretend, to performing skits, or being in plays…this session has something for all! The Power of Poetry - 132, 252, 342 Poetry is all around us…waiting to be captured by the poet! Learn and share appreciation for the art of poetry by reading, writing and performing it in fun and creative ways. Participants will be submerged in poetry by reading and writing various forms, by learning writing strategies and tools for enhancing their own original poetry and by performing poetry as oral interp. Empower creativity by unleashing your inner poet! Puppet Mania - 350 Puppetry has so much to offer people of all ages. Participants will make their own puppets, building small sets and props. It’s a chance for children to experiment and discover skills in themselves that they didn’t know they had. Scribbling, Scratching and Stippling - 111 Let’s scribble and scratch outside the borders. Students will use drawing materials, paper, cardboard and other nontraditional art materials in this class. It’s all about creativity and exploring the mind. The class will look at textures and values to help their animals look 3-D. The class will look at the work of Henri Rousseau for inspiration and use colored pencils in creating their art. Time for Tea in Wonderland - 113 “The time has come, the Walrus said…” learn all about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and a wonderful tea party. You will have a proper “Mad-Hatter” tea party while wearing your own Mad-Hatter hat which you will learn how to make. There will be lots of nonsense and whimsy afoot when we hop through the rabbit hole and discover the secrets of Wonderland! With Collage, Anything Goes - 121, 311 A variety of supplies will be used along with a little creativity in cutting and gluing to make collage pieces of art. From torn paper and straws to magazine images and scraps of paper… * Teacher went to Japan as a Fulbright recipient, where she was taught the Art of Silk Painting from a Master Teacher who painted the robes for the Emperor’s wife.
