Evelyn Moore
Evelyn Lavina Moore was born April 7 , 1907 on the banks of ~ he Thames
at the Poole homestead , Tait ' s corner , Ekfrid in Middlesex County , Ontario .
She attended public school S.S. No . 8 Ekfrid and No . 11 Westminister and
four years at London Central Collegiate Institute , specializing in Engl ish
in which she won Public Speaking prize in Middlesex Presbytery and a
silver medal on "C anadian Poets" in c ompetition with London Conference.
She graduated from London Normal School in 1926 . She taught school at
Littlewood and Christina , Gladstone and Belmont. She contributed to
Pathfinder , the Young Pe ople ' s magazine of United Church and taught a
primary class.
July 28 , 1934, she married Frank Moore . They had two boys , Peter
and James .
In 1954-59. she was President of the Women ' s Missionary S ociety of
Belmont United Church and a life member as well . She i s a member of the
Belmont u.c .w. and a member of the Belmont Women's Institute since
January 1949 , the convenor of Agriculture and Canadian Industries for
eleven years and i n 1972 was elected convenor of this committee for
Elgin East District W.I.She was also P . R.O . from 1975-79 · Both Frank
and Evelyn were faithful to Yarmouth and Belmont Agricultural Society .
She was a director of the Ladies Division , for six years , and a director
of Belmont Fair Board ; also Superintendent of Junior Fair . In 1957 she
wrote the Soc iety' s History which was published in a Historical Booklet
in honour of its Cenrennial . She served as Secretary-Treasurer of the
North School" from 1950-64. She became a Director of Ontario School
Trustees and Ratepayers Association .
In 1965 , when the sch ool closed they organized as the North Rate payers Ass ociation. Frank and Evelyn lived on a Century farm dating back
to 1849 . They were active members of the London and Middlesex Historical
Socie ty ani' of the North Yarmouth and Di strict Soc i ety . They were
actively engage d in the Centennial restoration project of a local
pioneer cemetery , "The F ifth Concession Burial Ground" Westminister .
They researched the local hi story and in 1971 were privileged to assist
as Resource Personnel in the "Early School Environment Study" a
curriculum project for t eachers .

member and has contributed much to our community .

..b.o.m.. in Aylmer JsaRuarv 31 1898 to Philip and Lettie
learn. She was a omemaker and mother, who taught
piano and was organist at Summers Corners United
Church for many years. She was opposed to plastic
from the beginning and warned her family it would be
bad for the environment. She was self-educated and
opposed selling Canadian water. About 80 friends attended her open house at Chateau Gardens, Saturday.
Mrs. Foster has 12 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by
