Plagiarism is an unethical publication practice. Plagiarism can be of different natures, from copying texts to adopting ideas, with not giving credit to its creator. Due to smart word processors and powerful web-searching engines makes increase Plagiarism phenomenon.This espicially increases Plagiarism fact in digital texts.[4] In this Report, we highlight the different types of plagiarism and address the issues of plagiarism of text, plagiarism of ideas, self-plagiarism, and duplicate publication in an online exam. Wide use of internet and word processors makes it easy to plagiarize.Several terms including Intellectual Property (IP), ethics, legal constraint, and copyright has been raised up due to the plagiarism issue.Today Plagiarism is a big problem in universities and companies. 2 Types Of Plagiarism To minimize plagiarism we must know the different types of plagiarism. Plagiarism can be divide on the basis of text plagiarism, file plagiarism, image, video, songs plagirism etc. On the basis of text plagiarism can be divided into mainly two types, direct plagiarism and semantic plagiarism. [3] Plagiarism can be of several types. Some of them are following 1. Direct plagiarism means that the plagiarizers search literatures from the internet or literature library, copy the whole or parts of the text, and make up them together again.[3] 2. Semantic plagiarism means that the plagiarizers do deeply word processing after literature collection, adjust text structure, change sentence pattern, and replace some keywords.[3] 3. Plagiarism of ideas If an author does not copy any words and phrases from the original article, if he simply uses the same idea, thought, or invention and presents it as his own without proper acknowledgment, the same may amount to plagiarism. This kind of plagiarism is difficult to detect but once detected, it is as serious an offence. 4. Mosaic plagiarism This is the more common form of plagiarism. The sentence or paragraph structure is almost similar to the original source with a few words and phrases here and there which are in the authors own words. 5. Self-plagiarism Sometimes, the author may borrow significantly from his/her own previous work, without proper citation, which is consider as self plagiarism. 6. Copy and Paste These is the easiest kind of plagiarism to make a portion of text or complete paper is copied and paste in other document.This type of copied case can 2 be easily find in paper because it can contain the same text, same punctuation, same spaces etc.So generally entire passage looks like identical. 7. Accidental plagiarism In accidental plagiarism user generally do not know how to cite the material.User may not know how to paraphrase or summarize.Accidental plagiarism can be done if user not know is the common knowledge.Recycling an old paper may leads to accidental plagiarism. 8. Deliberate Plagiarism If user is writing from books or articles,copying and pasting from web pages and online sources to create a patchwork writing then it comes under deliberate plagiarism.Buying something or downloading or borrowing a paper also belongs to deliberate Plagiarism. 9. Complete Plagiarism Submitting an essay or report that has been written by someone else. It differents from direct plagiarism in terms of that it contain complete essay or paper while direct plagiarism contains some part of essay or paper. 3 Use Case Diagram For Plagiarism Figure 1: Use Case Diagram For Plagiarism 3 4 Plagiarism in an Online Exam 1. Student can do cheating in an online exam by using their mobile phone. They can send messages(SMS) to each other and can share their information in an exam. 2. Student can do cheating in an online exam by using internet in mobile phone. One can use their mobile phone for internet browesing. 3. Student can do cheating in an online exam with his neighbour. Student can see in neighbour’s window and cheat. 4. Student can do cheating in an online exam by exchanging their respective position. This may be happen when examiner is outside for a movement. 5 Some online availabe software 5.1 Plagiarismchecker This tool is available at http://www.plagiarismchecker.com/ and can be used freely. I have tested this tool for plagiarism detection and noted some observation. There are some limitation for this tool are following 1. This tool does not support less than six words in a line. 2. This tool does not support more than 32 words in a line and gives error that number of words are higher than Google’s word limit. 5.2 Plagiarisma This tool is available at http://plagiarisma.net/ and can not be used freely.User need to create their login id and password for used it freely. I have tested this tool for plagiarism detection and noted some observation. There are some key points for this tool are following 1. This tool supports PDF, DOC, DOCX, RTF, ODT, TXT, HTML file formate. 2. This tool givs some good result compare to Plagiarismchecker. This show result in very good manner.It shows exact copied text and Source from where it is copied. 5.3 Turnitin Turnitin uses a set of algorithms to make a digital fingerprint of any text document, and then compares it against Internet sources and against pre saved database. Turnitin underlines text passages showing similarities to other sources, and gives the URLs of the sources. Turnitin provides a free one-month trial for plagiarism detection. It requires costs for subscription rather than purchase. The web page provides quotations depending on numbers of classes, numbers of students, and so on. 4 Prons: Turnitin Covers a huge range of sources and it Offers a digital portfolio service. in which students work is archived. Cons: The user has to check the report carefully because the software detects correctly-cited material as well as plagiarised material. As in similar programs, formatting is lost in the checking procedure, so essays for marking have to be submitted separately from essays for checking. Figure 2: Information flow in turnitin plagiarism checker 5 6 Contribution and Future Works I have read some article on minimization of plagiarism in online exam.There are some ways to prevention and minimization of plagiarism in online exam like changing the order of question, changing the order of objective option.There are also some ways to minimize plagiarism by giving some time limite in exam. In this stage, a comprehensive survey of pagiarism detection online software has been carried out. I have understand some tools of plagiarism detection.I have tried some some tools manually to check the plagiarism and and compare their results with other one. 6.1 Future Work 1. I have to read more research paper which will help me to understand that how tool can handle different language to check plagiarism. 2. I also want to read some more algorithm of plagiarism detection which further optimized result. 3.
