IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1) TAXES FOR PRIOR YEAR(S) ARE UNPAID: If this notation appears on the face of your statement, it indicates there are delinquent taxes which constitute a lien against the property. After June 30 of
the first year of delinquency, a $15.00 redemption fee is added, plus penalties of 1 1/2% per month to the time of redemption. Taxes which are transferred to the Unsecured Roll after the default date will
be subject to an additional collection fee of $70.00 (California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 2922 (e)).
2) DISHONORED CHECK: A $20.00 fee will be charged for all checks returned for any reason. The record of payment will be canceled and appropriate penalties will be added.
3) TAXES AND COMPUTATION: Your Tax Collector does not determine the amount of taxes you pay. Tax rates and values are established in accordance with Proposition 13, plus any bond
indebtedness and special assessments.
4) FULL VALUES AND EXEMPTIONS: THE COUNTY ASSESSOR ESTABLISHES ALL VALUES. Any question regarding the valuations or exemptions should be directed to the Assessor's Office. If the
taxpayer disagrees with a change in the assessed value as shown on the tax bill, the taxpayer has the right to an informal assessment review for the following year by contacting the assessor's office by
January 1.
5) PROPERTY TRANSFER: If this property has been sold, return the bill to the Tax Collector or, as a courtesy, forward the tax bill to the new owner.
6) TO OBTAIN A TAX BILL: If you do not receive tax bills for all of your properties contact the Tax Collector. FAILURE TO RECEIVE A TAX BILL DOES NOT RELIEVE THE TAXPAYER OF HIS
RESPONSIBILITY of payment or constitute cause for cancellation of penalty and cost charges in cases of delinquency. (R & T CODE SEC. 2610.5)
IMPORTANT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
FOR QUESTIONS ON ASSESSED VALUE, CALL THE ASSESSOR'S DISTRICT OFFICE IN YOUR AREA, OR CALL (909) 387-8307.
7) NAME AND ADDRESS CHANGES: Requests for changes of either name or address must be directed to the attention of the County Assessor, 172 W. 3rd St., San Bernardino, California 92415-0310.
8) PROPERTY LIEN DATE: Taxes are levied on both real and personal property as it exists at 12:01 A.M. on the first of January. The entire tax on real property may be paid when the first installment is
due. The first installment may be paid separately when the first installment is due or any time thereafter until the properties on the current roll become tax defaulted. The second installment may be paid
separately only if the first installment has been paid.
9) EQUALIZATION OF ASSESSMENTS: If the taxpayer and the Assessor are unable to agree pursuant to an informal assessment review on proper assessed value, the taxpayer has the right to file an
application for reduction in assessment (assessment appeal) with the County Board of Equalization or the Assessment Appeals Board, as applicable, during the period from July 2 to November 30,
inclusive. Applications can be mailed to: Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, 385 N. Arrowhead Avenue, 2nd Floor, San Bernardino, CA 92415-0130 or can be submitted electronically through their website
at www.sbcounty.gov/assessmentappeals.
10) Homeowners who own and occupy a property as their principal place of residence as of 12:01 A.M. on January 1st are eligible for Homeowner's Exemption. If you qualify and have not filed a claim,
contact the Assessor's Office. Phone (909) 387-8307
11) The law requires any person acquiring an interest in real property or a mobile home subject to property tax to file a Change of Ownership Statement with the Assessor within 45 days of the change.
12) If you are currently receiving a Homeowner's Exemption and you no longer own or occupy this property as your principal place of residence as of 12:01 A.M. January 1st, you must by law, notify the
Assessor by December 10 to avoid a penalty. Phone (909) 387-8307
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
PROPERTY TAX ASSISTANCE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS OR BLIND OR DISABLED PERSONS: The 2009/2010 state budget suspended funding for the Gonsalves-Deukmejian-Petris Senior Citizens
Property Tax Assistance Law, which provides direct cash assistance. The Franchise Tax Board (FTB) will not be issuing Homeowner and Renter Assistance (HRA) Program instruction booklets and will
not accept HRA claims for the 2009 claim year.
For the most current information on the HRA Program, go to ftb.ca.gov and search for HRA.
PROPERTY TAX POSTPONEMENT FOR SENIOR CITIZENS OR BLIND OR DISABLED PERSONS: On February 20, 2009, the Governor signed Chapter 4, Statutes of 2009, which immediately
suspends the Senior Citizens' Property Tax Deferral Program. This legislation prohibits the filing of claims for property tax postponement and prohibits the Controller from accepting claims filed after
February 20, 2009. As a result of the program suspension, the Controller will no longer accept claims for property tax postponement pending modification or repeal of this new law. However, the
Controller's Office will continue processing claims postmarked prior to February 20, 2009.
For the most current information on the PTP program, please visit the Controller's website at sco.ca.gov.
