What Does It Mean “I’ve been placed
on the waiting list”?
When you have been placed on the waitlist that means, at this time, we do not have a space
in residence to offer you. We do, however, expect spaces to become available. As spaces in
residence become available we will be offering them to the first eligible applicant on the waiting
list. As offers are cancelled, or declined, the waiting list will become smaller and applicants will
move up the waiting list to become the first eligible applicant.
Over the summer and during the school year there will be a lot of movement on the waiting list.
In previous years we have exhausted the waiting list in the second semester/winter term. This
means that we’ve either been able to offer those applicants a space or they’ve found another
place to live and cancelled off the waiting list. It also means you still have a chance of getting into
residence even if you are still on the waiting list when school begins. In previous years we have
been able to offer a space in residence to approximately 75-100+ applicants on the waiting list
before school begins.
What Are My Chances of
Getting An Offer?
During the summer rounds of offers we typically will be able to offer between 75 and 100 spaces
to students on the waiting list. There will also be waitlisted applicants who decide to cancel their
waiting list position and this increases the amount of movement on the waiting list.
During the school year we do have rooms become available and we offer as many as are
available each week, so you receive emails from us weekly with either a waiting list update or a
residence offer of accommodation.
We continue to offer rooms in residence until there are no more applicants on the waiting list. In
past years we have exhausted the waiting list in the second semester/winter term before the end
of that term. It’s not a matter of if you’ll get into residence, but when you get into residence.
2
When Will I Know If I Got A
Space Or Not?
During the summer months we are able to send out four rounds of offers. We just completed the
first round of offers. When spaces become available the following are the dates we will send out
email offers. Below are the dates for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds of offers.
Second Round > Emailed July 6, 2016 > 1st Installment Due July 13, 2016
Third Round > Emailed July 27, 2016 > 1st Installment Due August 3, 2016
Fourth Round > Emailed August 10, 2016 > 1st Installment Due August 17, 2016
On these dates you will receive one of two emails: a residence offer of accommodation email or
a waitlist update email.
If you receive a residence offer of accommodation email, and meet the conditions,
congratulations you’ll be moving into residence. If you receive a waitlist update letter,
unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a little longer before getting a space in residence.
Please keep in mind that we offer spaces in residence/send waitlist updates weekly after the
August 28, 2016 move-in date as rooms become available. The dates outlined above only refer
to our summer offer period. If you are still on the waitlist after the fourth round of offers there is
still a chance that you will be offered a space during the school year, although you won’t have a
space before school begins. Typically, we are able to begin school-year offers during orientation
week.
How Long Will You Offer During
The School Year?
We will send out residence offers of accommodation until we have exhausted the residence
waiting list. In previous years this typically happens in the second semester/winter term.
Residence offers will be sent out based on the following schedule:
1st Semester Offers - September until end of November
2nd Semester Offers - December until end of March
We do send out offers in December for the second semester/winter term. You would move into
residence in January if you are offered in December.
3
How Do You Determine The
Order Of The Waitlist?
All applicants that applied on time (by the June 1, 2016 application deadline) were prioritized
based on the following three categories:
1. Year at Ryerson (Top Priority = First Year Students)
2. Distance from Ryerson (Top Priority = Further Distance from Ryerson)
3. Entry Status (Top Priority = Directly from High School*)
Once we prioritized all applicants, we offered as many as we can a space in residence, the
remaining applicants keep their priority level and are assigned to the waiting list in that order.
For any applicants who completed their application after the June 1, 2016 deadline, they are
considered late and are placed at the bottom of the waiting list based on the day they completed
their application.
*Please note that students are only considered “directly from high school” if they have graduated
during the most recent academic year. Students who have taken a “victory lap” or taken time off
between high school and university will not be considered directly from high school.
What Will You Offer Me?
We will only offer you a room style you have requested in your room choices on your residence
application. Should a room style become available that you did not request in your choices it
will not be offered to you and, instead, be offered to the next applicant on the waiting list who
requested that choice.
If you would like to make an alteration to your room style choices please send an email to
[email protected]. Please ensure to list your room preferences in order (1 = most desired
choice, 7 = least desired choice), if there is a room style that you would not accept if it was
offered to you please do not include it in your room preferences.
The choices are:
Pitman Hall:
1. Apartment-style room with shared
bathroom
2. Double room with shared bath
3. Paired room with semi-private
bathroom
4. Single room with shared bathroom
ILLC:
1. Single room with private bathroom
2. Double room with semi-private
bathroom
O’Keefe House:
1. Double/ Triple room with shared
bathroom

4
Condensed Room Offer Period
Please note that the time period between offers and the 1st installment deadline is condensed
for offers from the waiting list. During the summer please be prepared to make the 1st installment
payment within a week of your offer if you are in the top 50 spaces on the waiting list. During the
school year please be prepared to make the 1st installment payment within a week if you are in
the top 10 spaces on the waiting list.
If I Move In During The School
Year Will I Have To Pay The Full
Residence Fees?
If you are offered a space in residence after the August 28, 2016 move-in date some of your
residence fees will be pro-rated, so you’ll only be paying for the period you live in residence.
Residence fees are pro-rated on a weekly basis because we offer residence space on a weekly
basis. The residence fees that are pro-rated are the: rent charge, meal plan charge, and
communications fee charge. The remaining fees are a one-time non-refundable fee connected
to living in residence, they are the: residence programming charge, residence council charge,
laundry charge, food admin charge.
For more details about the individual charges, please visit the residence fees section of the
Housing & Residence Life website.
Will The Offer Say The Exact
Room I’m Being Offered?
The residence offer of accommodation will let you know the room style you are being offered, but
we are unable to let you know the exact room number until you are moving into residence.
5
Can I See The Room Being
Offered Before Accepting The
Offer?
During the summer months we run residence tours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1:00
pm until August 5, 2016. You should be able to see the room style offered to you during one of
these tours, as long as there are not summer hotel guests in the rooms.
During the school year we are very limited in the number of tours we are able to run. We will try,
but we may not be able to accommodate your request to see the room style offered.
What’s It Like, Moving Into
Residence Late? Is It Weird
to Move Into Residence After
Everyone Else?
Typically, the other residents on your floor will be very excited when you move in. It’s weird
having an empty room on the floor, so it’s exciting to see who will be filling the space and joining
the community. It definitely helps when you’re friendly and ready to meet your new floor mates.
This will be your home while you stay here, so it’s always a good idea to get involved and join in
the community.

What Happens If I Find Another
Place to Live?
If you find an apartment or another place to live during the school year, please contact the
Housing & Residence Life office in writing to cancel your position on the waiting list.
It is important to note that you can cancel off the waiting list at any time before being sent
a residence offer of accommodation and receive a credit of $350 to your RAMSS account.
However, if we offer you a room and you decline/cancel it, you will forfeit your $400 application
fee. If you’ve decided to cancel your position on the waiting list please email housing@ryerson.
ca as soon as possible. This allows us to keep the waiting list accurate and up to date.
How Will You Contact Me?
We will contact you via your application email address, until your Ryerson e-mail is activated
in August. If at any time you wish to change your application email address please notify us
immediately by sending an email to [email protected]. It is your responsibility to keep your
contact information up to date with both Ryerson University and Housing & Residence Life.
How Do I Get Off The List?
To remove yourself from the waiting list please send an email to [email protected]. The email
needs to include your full name, your student number, and your request to be removed from the
waiting list. Once you have sent your request you will be removed from the waiting list and $350
of your application fee will be credited to your RAMSS account.
Please note: If your request to be removed from the waitlist comes after you have been sent a
residence offer you will forfeit the $400 application fee. As soon as you know you’d like to be
removed from the waiting list please email us ([email protected]) to avoid forfeiting your
application fee.

I can’t commute/wait for an
offer. What other options do I
have?
There is a wide range of off-campus options available including some non-Ryerson residence
styles and apartment listings. Check out places4students.com and choose Ryerson University
as your institution to search available listings close to campus.
If you choose to look for off-campus accommodation, we would recommend starting your search
a minimum of 2 months prior to the beginning of the school year. We suggest waiting until after
the second round of offers (July 6, 2016) if you are looking at individual rental spaces. If you are
interested in a non-Ryerson residence, you should get in contact with them right away.
You can set up an appointment with our office to receive guidance into beginning the search
of off-campus housing by giving our office a call at 416-979-5284 or email housing@ryerson.
ca. These appointments will need to be scheduled in advance and can be in-person or over the
phone.
Why do spaces open? Why do
people cancel?
People either decline /cancel their spot in residence or on the waiting list for a variety of reasons
which include: they decide to attend another school, they miss important deadlines, decide to
defer university admission for a year, find off-campus accommodation, they aren’t enjoying their
program, they can’t afford the cost of residence, their offer of admission has been revoked, etc.
