Litter
Busters
Show Us
How
The Eco Group met this
week and, having
monitored the school
site, decided that
something had to be
done about the litter
dropped through school
fences and stuffed in
and under our hedges.
As you can see, they
have started the job of
clearing the perimeter
but they need your help.
You have all been so
good at stopping litter
in school we now need
you to encourage others
to keep our site clean
and tidy. If you see
anyone dropping litter
on our site, into or
under our hedges –
please challenge them.
Members of the Eco team begin the huge task of cleaning up our hedgerows

green school and we
want to keep it neat,
tidy and safe.’ (School

Newham’s Free
Friendly Read
This year, Newham
Libraries are encouraging
your children to take part
in a summer reading
challenge. The theme is
called ‘The Big Friendly
Read’’ and is inspired by
Roald Dahl’s life and
books. This six book
challenge, with beautiful
posters and stickers to
collect, will be running at
all libraries in Newham
and is free for children to
take part. Children sign up
at their local library and
receive a collector’s
folder to get them
started, read six books of
their choice and collect
incentives along the way.
Children who complete the
challenge get a medal and
certificate.
So …let’s all get reading
over the summer!
Science Curriculum Award
We are delighted to share some good news with you. We
have just been awarded the Primary Science Silver Award.
This reflects all the work that the staff team, led by Mr
Jennings, has completed in developing investigative
Science at St Luke’s and also the school’s work to support
colleagues in other schools. Well done everyone!
Where is
God Today?
This week saw the
beginning of a mixed RE
and DT (Design and
Technology) week (which
continues 6th-10th June)
that focuses on places of
worship.
Children are being given
the exciting opportunity
of visiting different
places of worship in
London, looking at
architecture, artefacts
and becoming more
informed about other
religious beliefs. Taking
inspiration from their
visits, the pupils will then
create all sorts of D&T
work back in the
classroom. Y4 & 5 have
already visited the London
Central Mosque, and other
classes are planning visits
to Christian, Jewish and
Sikh places of worship.
Top Tip
Don’t ask your child what they
did at school today: ask them
what was the best thing that
happened to them or what
made them laugh.
Recycle Challenge Festival
Our Eco Group have been
involved with the
Docklands’ Museum of
London, creating a magical
story with an eco theme
which will be read out at a
FREE family festival at
the Museum.
Details are in the leaflet
‘RECYCLE CHALLENGE’
that has been given to
your child.
Where’s Bill?
Superheroes search for kidnapped dog
Our brave Reception superheroes donned their masks
and capes today and set off to rescue one of their
best friends – Bill the Dog.
Bill, who lives in the toy corner of their classroom,
was kidnapped by the Wicked Poison Ninja.
Our superheroes searched the school and followed a
series of clues that eventually led them to poor Bill
who they found under a chair in the main Hall.
Well done Reception!
