LIN/TAMCN
What is the LIN/TAMCN?
The Line Item Number (LIN)/Table of Authorized Material Control Number (TAMCN) is used for designating a
family of stock numbers for authorizations.
Agencies will be able to define whether the LIN/TAMCN is mandatory or optional and the construct/format of
the LIN/TAMCN by the Catalog name.
What is the Format for a LIN/TAMCN?
Edits for the LIN/TAMCN are tied to a Catalog, which is associated with the site the user is logged into. The
Agency can decide which edit they want attached with their Catalog. Edits that the Agency can choose from,
but are not limited to, are as follows:
ARMY
• Must be 6 characters in length
• Positions 1-5 are numeric (cannot be all zeros)
• Position 6 is alpha

• Must be 6-10 characters
• If there are 6 characters, the first character must be alpha, excluding I, L, or O, and the last value must
be numeric.
• If there are more than 6 characters, first character must be alpha, excluding I, L, or O, and positions 610 must be alpha.
OTHER
• Must be 6 characters in length
Adding a LIN/TAMCN
1. Select LIN/TAMCN from the Catalog menu path.
The LIN/TAMCN Search Criteria page displays.
You can do one of two things:

Enter the LIN/TAMCN information now
OR
•
Select the Add button

The LIN/TAMCN Add page is displayed.

Enter your new LIN/TAMCN.
Enter the description of your LIN/TAMCN.
If desired, enter a remark.
Select the Add button.
A successful Transaction Status page displays.
Updating a LIN/TAMCN
1. Select LIN/TAMCN from the Catalog menu path.
The LIN/TAMCN Search Criteria page displays.
2. Enter the LIN/TAMCN you wish to update.
If you only know a portion of the information you are seeking (for example, you only know that you are
searching for an entry with "X38" somewhere in the LIN/TAMCN), enter that and use wildcards to fill in the
blanks.

A wildcard is a character that can be substituted for letters, groups of letters, words or entire sentences. The
DPAS wildcard character is the "%" (percent sign). It is used throughout the application so this would be a
good piece of information to place in your memory bank!
3. Select the Search button.
The Search Results page displays.
4. Select the Update hyperlink next to the LIN/TAMCN you wish to update.
The Update page displays.
The only fields you can update are the LIN/TAMCN Desc, LIN/TAMCN Status, and History Remarks.
If you want to change the LIN/TAMCN itself, you must first delete it and then add it back. However, if it
already associated with a Stock Nbr, you will need to re-associate the Stock Nbr with another LIN/TAMCN or
remove the LIN/TAMCN from the Stock Nbr.
5. Make the desired change.
6. Select the Update button.
A successful Transaction Status page displays.

Deleting a LIN/TAMCN
As with the Update, if you want to delete the LIN/TAMCN it cannot be associated with a Stock Nbr. If it is, you
will need to re-associate it with another LIN/TAMCN or remove it from the Stock Nbr.
1. Select LIN/TAMCN from the Catalog menu path.
The LIN/TAMCN Search Criteria page displays.
2. Enter the LIN/TAMCN you wish to delete.
3. Select the Search button.
The Search Results page displays.
4. Select the Delete hyperlink next to the LIN/TAMCN you wish to delete.

5. Enter a remark to why you are deleting this LIN/TAMCN in History Remarks.
6. Select the Delete button.
