Preschool Summer Program
Welcome to our summer camp!
During the summer months we offer fun and engaging camps led by qualified instructors. You can pick from a list
of weekly specialty camps or the General Session, which will be filled with crafts, water play, art, and games.
Our summer camp is open to children going into preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten (about 3-6 years old). All
students must be fully potty-trained. We have a summer camp available for elementary aged children located at
our Annex campus across the street. Please refer to our elementary summer catalog for more information about
this program.
Camp Basics:
Nine one-week sessions are offered from June 26 – August 25. There is no camp on Tuesday July 4th. Please refer
to the following camp schedule for specific dates and times. Camp is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
(complimentary early drop off begins at 8:00 a.m.), Monday through Friday at L’Etoile’s campus, located at 5839
SW Hood Ave.
Costs –
Day Session: Discovery & Play - Play supervised by a fluent French speaker, some planned activities
Half day (9:00am-12:30pm)
$150/week or $35/day
Full day (9:00am-3:00pm)
$200/week or $45/day
Specialty Camp Care Options - Specific crafts and activities lead by specialists

Registration:
⇒Please fill out one form per child (form available online at http://letoilefrenchschool.com/enroll/). Please
indicate if you wish to enroll in the Day Session, Specialty Camp, and/or After Care.
⇒Deposit due at time of registration. Payment in full is due two weeks before camp. More information in the
billing section below.
⇒Day Session has full week and day rates to accomodate part-time schedules. Speciatly Camps require 5-day
attendance and fees may not be prorated.
⇒Speciatly Camp and Day Session space is limited.
Billing Policy
A $100/week/child non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. The deposit will be applied to the
total for that week and you will receive an electronic invoice for the remainder of the cost 2 weeks before the
camp start date. An invoice is generated for each week of camp.
For example: if you sign up your child for one week of a specialty camp plus the PM add-on the total will be $250. A
$100 deposit is due when you sign up. Two weeks before the camp you will receive another invoice for the
remaining $150. The balance is due on receipt.
If you sign up for camps less than two weeks before the camp start date, the amount in full is due at the time of
registration and is not refundable.

Cancellations
If you wish to cancel more than two weeks before the camp start date your will lose your deposit but you will not
be responsible for the remaining balance. Families that cancel less than two weeks before the camp date are
responsible for paying the full balance. We do not give refunds for absences due to illness or other reasons.
General Session Instructors (does not include descriptions of guest camp instructors)
Emily Ventham - lead camp instructor: Student at Hult International Business School in London. Emily is a Portland
native. She enjoys the French language, which she studied for most of her academic career, and spending time with
children. French speaker.
Angela Donkel - afternoon aide and after care: After care supervisor and lunch teacher at L'Etoile. This is Angela's
third year at L'Etoile's summer program.
Christa Clament - morning aide: After care teacher at L'Etoile.
Specialty Camp Descriptions
All specialty camps from from 9am to noon. Complimentary early drop off starts at 8am and half day families may
pick up between 12pm and 12:30pm.
Families can extend to full day by adding PM general care for $50/week or $10/day.
Week 1: June 26-30
Little sound explorers
Explore the different ways to make sounds! Campers will bring songs to life through stories and paintings in order
to help them understand the effect of sound. By manipulating everyday objects students will discover that music is
all around them!

Week 2: July 3-7 **Closed Tuesday 7/4**
Musical Blocks
Students will spend the week literally and figuartively learning the building blocks of music. While they construct an
actual tower using wooden blocks, campers will also build "musical" towers in a variety of ways: with French songs;
by exploring rhythm through body and instrument percussion; and by studying pitch, basic music theory, notation,
and more using the Orff-Schulwerk approach.

Gymnastics
Try out various gymnastic equipment and learn basic
fundamentals on all the traditional apparatus including
bars, beam, and trampoline. Learn about the history of
the sport and the technical differences between men's
and women's gymnastics. Includes gymnastics themed
crafts to take home, and at the end of the week
students will perform a routine that they helped
La Nature en Peinture
Nature painting. Come learn different painting styles and
techniques to create natural landscapes, inspired by
different artists and their way of representing nature
through art.

Week 4: July 17-21
Circus Arts!
Enter the virtuosic world of clowning, tumbling,
acrobatics, storytelling, object manipulation and partner
balancing acts. Throughout this fun and exciting
workshop series we will work on developing motor and
coordination skills, kinesthetic awareness, basic
tumbling, creative movement and games as we bravely
enter the world of clowns, tumble the roads of acrobats
and unlock the potential of creative circus in a safe and
joyous way.

Pretty origami. Come create and decorate a collection of
objects through the art of paper folding!

In the Garden
A fun and hands-on introduction to basic environmental
science. Your budding scientist will discover how, why,
and where things grow, how weather affects our
gardens, the basic science of seeds, all while exploring
leaves, flowers, and the creatures that live in our
gardens.

Soccer!
Spend a week enjoying the world’s most popular sport
in a fun, recreational environment. Play fun soccer
games to build skills in our fun, age-appropriate camp.
Learn and practice soccer skills including: dribbling,
passing, receiving and shooting. Everyone is a winner as
the week’s fun culminates in an age-appropriate “World
Cup” tournament.
All campers will receive a soccer ball and a jersey.

Musique et Mouvement
A fun and creative class for kids to explore and express
movement and music. This camp will include games,
dances and other activities to develop reflexes,
coordination and spontaneity while exercising the right
and left sides of brain . A variety of music styles and
singalongs will be incorporated to work on rhythm,
coordination, and motor skills.

Body & Mind
In this camp students will exceed their own
expecations by discovering the amazing things their
body and mind can do. Every day, campers will discover

Fairy Tales & Music
In this camp, students will use French sounds, syllables
and words to create songs inspired by fairytales.

music and practice improvisation through games, music,
percussion, dance and songs.

A week of exploring, listening to, and building

General Summer Information
Eligibility
The maternelle summer camp is open to students going into preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten (3-6 years old).
French language proficiency is not a requirement. Little ones are expected to be fully potty-trained. If a student
enrolls that is not completely potty trained (i.e. comes to school in pull ups or diapers, has accidents every day,
etc) you will be asked to leave the camp and no refund will be given.
Sunscreen Policy
Families should put sunscreen on their children before they arrive at camp. Students may spend time outside for
camps, snack, recess, or after care and should have appropriate sun protection. Approximately every 3 hours, at
lunchtime and at the beginning of after care, we will reapply spray sunscreens provided by the families to students
from the neck down. For the safety of staff and students L'Etoile will not use their hands to apply cream sunscreen
to children. Since spray sunscreen cannot be applied to the face, students should bring a sunhat or learn how to
use apply sunscreen to their face by themselves.
All sunscreen should be clearly marked.
Typical daily schedule
8:00am Early drop off and free play time
9:00am Students go to their enrichment camps. Circle time for general session students.
10:00am Morning snack and recess
11:00am Enrichment camp and general session activities resume.
12:00-1:00 Afternoon lunch and recess
12:30 Half day pick up
12:30-2:30 Nap time for younger students, quiet/reading time for older students
2:30-3:00 End of day circle
3:00-6:00 Optional after care
What to bring
- Morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack (if staying for after care)
- Sunscreen (see sunscreen policy)
- Change of clothes
- Nap stuff (if your child needs some quiet time after lunch)
- A bathing suit and towel
- A water bottle
Please label all bags and bottles with your child's name
Drop off/pick up
All of the summer camps and general sessions will take place at our Hood Avenue location. Early drop off begins at
8am and students must be picked up by 12:30 for half day, 3:00 for full day or 6:00 for after care. If you need to get
