Factoring a Four Term Polynomial by Factoring by Grouping 1. Factor a GCF out of the first two terms and then factor a GCF out of the last two terms. The binomial inside the parentheses should be the same. If they are not the same, rearrange the four term polynomial until they are the same or you have tried all combinations. 2. Your answer is the shared binomial and the other binomial is made from the two GCF that you have factored out. 1. y(y – 6) + 3(y – 6) 6. 2(b – 2) – b(b – 2) 2. x(x – y) – 2(y – x) 7. c(d – 4) + d(4 - d) 3. 𝑥 2 − 2𝑥 + 3𝑥 − 6 8. 𝑦 2 + 4𝑦 − 2𝑦 − 8 4. cd – 2c – 6d + 12 9. pq + 3q – 4q - 12 5. 7𝑦 3 − 12 + 21𝑦 2 − 4𝑦 10. 𝑧 3 − 8𝑧 2 − 3𝑧 + 24
