kts express 3

March 30, 2012
MESSAGES FROM THE MAIN OFFICE Dr. Rick Falkenstein, CSA
Mr. Scott Yerger, Asst. Principal
With technology advancing minute by minute, we are improving the way we communicate our monthly
information to our parents and community, through the use of Facebook. Don't worry, you don't have to be
a Facebooker to keep informed. Think of it as a “swanky”, “trendy” or perhaps even an instantaneous KTS
Express. You DO NOT need to have a Facebook account to view the KTS Facebook page. We are very
excited about giving you updated information and reminders about activities happening at KTS through
Facebook. You can either remain abreast of the events at the school throughout the month or wait until
the end of each month to view news and events. It’s up to you. The Kingwood Township School website
and now the Kingwood Township School Facebook page are updated daily with important information on
recent student activities and reminders about early dismissals, etc. If you do have a Facebook account,
feel free to “like” Kingwood Township School to receive news feeds of this information. To easily access
our new Facebook page, a link has been created on the main page of the Kingwood Township School
website (under the digital backpack).
Important flyers and information will continue to be posted in the digital backpack at mid-month and the
end of the month as usual. This is a short KTS Express…..visit our Facebook page to see more
“happenings” from the month of March!
The Knight’s Challenge is tonight at 6:00 p.m.
Come out to support the student, staff, parent and
community teams as they compete in several
challenges. Who will be the winner this year??
The 3rd marking period ends on Tuesday, April
3rd. Third marking period grades will be posted
on the PowerSchool Parent Portal on Wednesday,
April 18th. If you do not have access to a
computer, please contact the main office.
Spring pictures were sent home this week. Please
remember to return your payment and/or any
unwanted pictures to the main office.
There is a 1:00 p.m. dismissal on April 19th for
Parent/Teacher Conferences. No lunch will be
served.
The KTEF would like to say a big THANK YOU to the
KTS community for making the 2012 Gala & Auction such
a success. With your support, last Saturday night we raised
over $21,500 for the students of Kingwood Township
School! That amount is the third highest in the Gala &
Auction's 12-year history! The KTEF would also like to
extend special thanks to Dr. Falkenstein, Mr. Yerger and the
KTS teachers who so generously donated their time,
creativity and skills in the form of Teacher Time experiences
for the auction. As always, these items were huge hits!
A great time was had by all 187 guests at the Sergeantsville
Fire Company Ballroom, and we were privileged to honor
this year's Hall of Fame Award recipients Geoff Hewitt
(Alumni), Linda Ormosi (Retired Educator), and Anthony
De Sapio, Jr. (Community Service).
The KTEF looks forward to applying the money raised to
new educational grants that will be submitted to the KTEF
by KTS teachers this Spring.
On March 14 th (3/14), students
celebrated Pi Day! Pi Day happens on
March 14th every year and is a special
day shared by this Greek letter (π) that
represents the ratio of a circle’s
circumference divided by its diameter and the birthday of
Albert Einstein. Middle school students heard Pi stories, sang
Pi songs, tried to recite the first 20 digits of Pi and snacked on
round food. Elementary students were treated to games created
by the third grade. A happy Pi Day was had by all!
Congratulations to Madison Spinelli, the winner of the 2012
Kingwood School Geography Bee. Madison took part in a
final round that included 15 class winners from grades 5
through 8 and won by being able to answer the question:
"Barrier islands help shelter a nature reserve on Apalachicola
Bay, an arm of what large body of water?" Do you know the
answer? Madison did, it was the "Gulf of Mexico." Good job
Madison and congratulations for being Kingwood Geography
Bee champion.

Education Challenge. They collected 1,343 box tops and
labels and won a Marinelli's
pizza party. Mrs. Hyland

supplies from Labels for
Education.

this
collection the school earned
$738 from Box Tops and

to all for participating!!
*The PTA's Long Locks Program has been in full
swing! Participants in the program are growing their hair
and donating at least 8 inches of it to either Pantene
Beautiful Lengths or Locks of Love. The PTA checked in
on them to see how the hair-growing process was
going. First grader, Luise
John,
and
her
mom,
Susanne, are both patiently
growing their hair but both
agreed that they are ready to
cut it. School nurse, Mrs.
Arancio, has not had a haircut
since she donated her hair last
time for Long Locks...2 years
ago!! Third grader, Nicole
Planer, decided that she is not
ready for a haircut and would
like her hair a little longer.
Meanwhile
her
mom,
Suzanne, who has curly hair,
cannot wait to get it cut. She says she is tired of clips and
ponytails! Great job, ladies! The PTA thanks you for
signing on to this important and worthwhile cause. Pictured
