N3 Media Fellowship SOMArts Cultural Center embraces the entire spectrum of arts practice and cultural identity. It is a multicultural, community-built space where cutting-edge events and counterculture commingle with traditional art forms. The Neighborhood News Network (N3) Media Fellow will work with the Director of Communications & Community Engagement to create powerful videos capturing the unique stories of members of the SOMArts community, as well as highquality documentation of exhibitions and events at the South of Market Cultural Center. One of the central outcomes of the Fellowship will be documentation and editing of performances for the monthly series The News for broadcast on SF Commons Public Access Television. Another outcome will be several 2-5 minute videos that embody the identity of SOMArts as it relates to our mission statement (insurrection, connection and community through the arts) while showcasing our unique physical space and highlighting the many services and positive community impact that SOMArts provides. The concepts for these videos will be created by the Fellow with input from SOMArts. Videos may compellingly tell the stories of artists, cultural communities, and the many non-profit organizations and festivals that collaborate with SOMArts to achieve their creative vision. Once the Fellow has achieved equipment proficiency, there may be opportunities to be a camera operator as part of a live event broadcast on SF Commons Public Access Television. This position is made possible through equipment support provided by Bay Area Video Coalition. Primary Responsibilities: • • • • • • • Create and edit original video content and quality performance documentation for SOMArts website and social media channels; capture and organize b-roll from events Incorporate consistent style and branding in video content Obtain proper release forms for all footage Conceptualize, storyboard, shoot and edit short videos Formulate plans for creating video which include pre-production, production and postproduction stages and delivery of 30 minutes of content each month to BAVC for broadcast on Public Access Television Schedule interviews with artists & community members Contribute to a strategic media plan Qualifications: • • • Experience with video production and post-production; familiarity with codecs Proficiency with Adobe Premiere/Final Cut Pro Ability to effectively tell a story through the creative use of video SOMArts Cultural Center 934 Brannan St, San Francisco, CA 94103 (415) 863-1414 • (415) 522-0136 www.somarts.org • • • • Ability to design a project with clear, realistic goals and to self-monitor progress toward reaching those objectives Strategic thinking and planning abilities Superior organizational and time management skills Commitment to working in an environment which serves the entire cultural spectrum TIME REQUIREMENTS Six-month commitment preferred, 10 hrs per week (start date negotiable); day-to-day schedule may vary, but must have Tuesday evening availability on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, and must be available on Saturday, January 4, 6pm–midnight, for a special event featuring a live broadcast called 100 Performances for The Hole. The position is unpaid, but the Media Fellow will receive a $100/month travel stipend. Additional benefits include an opportunity to attend select classes for free at Bay Area Video Coalition, and to check out professional camera equipment for personal projects.
