Infant mortality is defined as the number of deaths of infants (one year of age or younger) per 1,000 live births. According to the 2001 census 64% of Bolivia’s population is considered to be in extreme poverty. Also according to the 2001 census 60% of Bolivia’s population is under the age of 25. In 1990 infant mortality rates were at 8.9%, in 2005 that percentage dropped to 5.2%. Mothers with little to no education have a 10% chance of infant mortality. Mothers with at least a secondary education have a 4% chance of infant mortality. Low birth weight.
