How To Teach Students To Compare And Contrast Texts
and Write Comparative Essays at Years 10-11
Tuesday, 7th June, 3.45-5.15, $73 - Warrnambool
This workshop looks at a range of effective activities we can use in our classrooms to
teach students how to compare and contrast texts in terms of their big ideas, their genres,
setting, major characters, sub themes and techniques. It will show teachers how to help
students transform their thinking from ideas to words on the page. Importantly, this
workshop will look at how vocabulary instruction is an essential part of any compare and
contrast activity in order to prepare students to write detailed and sophisticated essays.
This workshop will also look at setting students compare and contrast essay tasks, helping
them plan compare and contrast essays and providing students with effective feedback.
