Creative Walker Caddies Ann Hueber, a resident at Rockwood Lane Retirement Community, recently started creating walker caddies from quilt scraps to give to seniors and others who use walkers. These patchwork caddies have pockets to conveniently hold various accessories. Ann has given these walker caddies to the Veteran’s Hospital and also to residents at our O’Malley and Delaney properties. CENTENARIAN CELEBRATION Mary Jane Kindschy, resident at Rockwood Lane Retirement Community, celebrated her 100th birthday on April 9. “I’m still in fairly good health, play the piano and play cards,” she says. Mary Jane earned a degree in Home Economics from Montana State University. After both she and her husband, Dwight, earned advanced degrees, they moved to Moscow, Idaho. Dwight was affiliated with the Agriculture Department at the University of Idaho and Mary Jane was a guidance counselor for the public schools. After retirement, the couple moved to Rockwood Lane in Spokane to be closer to their three daughters, Jan, Marigail and Donna. In the early days at Rockwood Lane, Dwight and Mary Jane were involved in many activities and especially enjoyed the potluck breakfasts. Dwight died in 2006 at the age of 96, so Mary Jane lives today in her cozy cottage with many happy memories and her special caregiver, Lynn Hogeboom. Dolly, an 8-month old wallaroo, was a recent guest at Cathedral Plaza. A wallaroo is a marsupial indigenous to Australia and related to the kangaroo, but smaller. Dolly, in diaper, came to Cathedral Plaza with her owner John Schreiner, who is co-owner of the 12,000-acre Schreiner Farms ranch across the Columbia River from The Dalles, OR. There, the Schreiners have a menagerie of exotic animals, including zebras, bison, camels, giraffes, and wallaroos. Wallaroos are known to be very sweet and gentle. These Cathedral Plaza residents can attest to that! Anita Reel with her son and grandson ... Sr. Peggy Annette Judy Some photos taken by CP resident Sandra Conti ... The guest of honor ... Dolly!
