Thanks for the Pie!
Shari’s Restaurant on North
Monroe in Spokane generously
donates two delicious pies each week
to the Cathedral Plaza. Resident Mike
Mosher picks up the pies on
Sundays, and they are enjoyed at
Bingo and other social events. We
extend a special thank-you to Shari’s
Manager, Josh Smith (at right).
Creative Walker Caddies
Ann Hueber, a resident at
Rockwood Lane Retirement
Community, recently started creating
walker caddies from quilt scraps to
give to seniors and others who use
walkers. These patchwork caddies
have pockets to conveniently hold
various accessories. Ann has given
these walker caddies to the Veteran’s
Hospital and also to residents at our
O’Malley and Delaney properties.

Lane, and Lynnette Jensen, SSC at

caddies made by Ann Hueber.

CENTENARIAN CELEBRATION
Mary Jane Kindschy, resident at
Rockwood Lane Retirement
Community, celebrated her 100th
birthday on April 9. “I’m still in fairly
good health, play the piano and play
cards,” she says.
Mary Jane earned a degree in
Home Economics from Montana State
University. After both she and her
husband, Dwight, earned advanced
degrees, they moved to Moscow,
Idaho. Dwight was affiliated with the
Agriculture Department at the
University of Idaho and Mary Jane
was a guidance counselor for the
public schools. After retirement, the
couple moved to Rockwood Lane in
Spokane to be closer to their three
daughters, Jan, Marigail and Donna.
In the early days at Rockwood
Lane, Dwight and Mary Jane were
involved in many activities and
especially enjoyed the potluck
breakfasts. Dwight died in 2006 at the
age of 96, so Mary Jane lives today in
her cozy cottage with many happy
memories and her special caregiver,
Lynn Hogeboom.

HELLO DOLLY!
Dolly, an 8-month old wallaroo,
was a recent guest at Cathedral
Plaza. A wallaroo is a marsupial
indigenous to Australia and related to
the kangaroo, but smaller. Dolly, in
diaper, came to Cathedral Plaza with
her owner John Schreiner, who is
co-owner of the 12,000-acre Schreiner
Farms ranch across the Columbia
River from The Dalles, OR. There, the
Schreiners have a menagerie of exotic
animals, including zebras, bison,
camels, giraffes, and wallaroos.
Wallaroos are known to be very sweet
and gentle. These Cathedral Plaza
residents can attest to that!

MONIQUE’S MUSINGS
I recently received an email from a
friend that announced the celebration
of National Mud Pie Day. As this was
a holiday I’ve never celebrated, I was
intrigued. So, I did some research and
discovered a plethora of holidays in

existed. I thought I would list a few

will give you reason to smile, even
though today is not National Smile at
a Stranger Day.

May 4 - National Weather
Observer’s Day
May 8 - No Socks Day
May 10 - National Shrimp Day
May 11 - Twilight Zone Day
May 15 - National Chocolate Chip
Day
May 18 - National Rooster Day
May 23 - National Taffy Day
May 25 - National Tap Dance Day
June 1 - National Dinosaur Day
June 4 - National Frozen
Yogurt Day
June 6 - National Yo-Yo Day
June 12 - National Peanut Butter
Cookie Day
June 18 - International Picnic Day
June 25 - National Catfish Day
June 28 - Paul Bunyan Day
June 30 - National Meteor Day
These holidays are in addition to
Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day,
Father’s Day, Memorial Day and Flag

want a reason to celebrate, have a
wonderful Holiday!
