People:
Outfitting stylish and functional kitchens wasn’t enough for Katie Dawes
and Cathy Stapelfeld. Their store Kitchen Kaboodle’s success just made
them want to do more – like provide products that make the entire home
elegant and comfortable. So Katie and Cathy set about opening a second
store, Kaboodle at Home, and found an ideal location: a 3,600-square-foot
car-wash-turned-office-building. All it needed was a complete overhaul.
Progress:
Katie and Cathy approached several lenders, and one stood out. “We felt
that the enthusiasm of The Progress Fund and their interest in growing our
business was far greater than we saw from the banks,” Katie says. “They
were very quick to put together what we needed.” Namely, a $150,000
loan.
Impact:
Kaboodle at Home has added jobs and displayed openness to local
manufacturers and craftspeople. The housewares store is a new amenity
to the dynamic State College region. Now the shoppers who travel across
town and from all over the state for Kitchen Kaboodle really can get the
whole kit and caboodle.
