COUNTRY CHILDREN’S HOUSE NEWSLETTER wow APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS welcome to school! MATH & SENSORIAL “D week-In sensorial, we worked with textured dominoes finding which designs felt the same and which felt different. In Math we worked on counting by 10’s. We played a daisy work which involved matching the correct number to the correct daisy with that many petals on it. We learned that a dozen of something is equal to 12. We worked on sequential order with a dot-to -dot activity. “XYZ week”-We talked about the value and names of coins and paper money. We reviewed the numbers 1-20. We enjoyed favorite past works. We measured yellow yarn and counted yoyos. We talked about the quantity zero, means nothing. “Sh” week-We enjoyed playing shape BINGO all week. We enjoyed counting ships and matching ships this week. We had fun playing a game involving putting shells on a sandy beach. SCIENCE & GEOGRAPHY “D” week-Dinosaurs-We learned that they are no longer alive, but we know they existed because of the large fossils that we have found in the Earth. A person who studies dinosaurs is called a Paleontologist. We learned about the meat-eating dinosaurs-carnivores, and the plant-eating dinosaurs-herbivores. Desert-a desert is a place that gets hardly any rain. Many animals come out in the darkness to avoid the heat and we call that group nocturnal. We enjoyed our dentist visitor and studied dental health. September 2001 APRIL 2016 LANGUAGE & PRACTICAL LIFE We talked about blends and digraphs, learning that some letters when put together make a different sound than they do by themselves. This is a hard concept, but when grasped, it makes learning to read much easier. We have all grown so much this year. Keep practicing writing your letters!!!! “D” week-Choices included doll & dinosaur works. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. -It was wonderful to have Dr. Forgey & Dr. Charlie teach us about how to take care of our teeth. “XYZ week”-Along with our XYZ sound box and letter gluing, choice works included: yarn gluing, zoo animal stamping and practicing zipping. We read What If The Zebras Lost Their Stripes? & The Yukadoos. “ Sh” week-Along with our “sh” sound box some choice works included: a favorite-writing our letters in shaving cream. In practical life we enjoyed shoe tying. ART & MUSIC “D” week-What a dancing week of fun. We listened to Disney music, created dot art and learned about Degas. “XYZ week”-We enjoyed playing the xylophone. We painted with yellow paint and made “XYZ week”- We talked about x-rays and viewed a real x zoo pictures. . -ray in our classroom. We learned about zebras and “Sh” week-We enjoyed listening to a variety of their unique patterns. We learned that a zebra’s show tunes during our class time together. The shark’s scales are not as soft & big as on the fish-they’re actually called denticles & rubbing them the wrong way can scrape your skin. A shark can lose over 30,000 teeth in its lifetime. We enjoyed learning about the sheep. We took a close look at some seashells & discussed how each had once held a soft & boneless bodied animal. MONTESSORI CORNER Art & Music-The children gain appreciation of famous composers and artists through handson experience with numerous instruments and techniques of art that are introduced each day in the classroom.
