They will also investigate patterns and forms found in nature. Students will display work on mobiles hung from classroom windows. Every student will complete one paper quilled object. LESSON MAP Title of Lesson: Paper Quilling for Spring Curriculum Outcome: Students will: use tools, materials, and equipment safely and appropriately; demonstrate proper design and construction considerations with different media, such as paper. Students will learn about paper quilling and the art of rolled paper. investigate patterns and forms found in nature. create a work of quilled art. learn to appreciate the art created not only by them, but also by others. Your script may be listed in steps or procedures that include time allotted to them. Each section will include information on what the teacher will do and what students will do as well as the teaching strategies. Phase 1: Prior Learning - Motivator/ Introduction / Review / Warm-up --- The Beginning Time: 5mins Teacher will: Take attendance Introduce a FUN way to wrap up art class by emphasizing the spring day/ temperature/summer/nice day outside Create concept map on the board with marker: What are some common things that we find in springtime? Anticipated student answers: Flowers, birds, sunshine, leaves, grass etc. Alternate Teacher Questions: What things in nature are a sign of spring? Are there animals or insects that you see in springtime? Phase 2: Knowledge Content (Tasks and Activities) – Supporting Learning --- The Middle Time:10mins Teacher will: Begin PowerPoint Presentation “Paper Quilling” Model quilling process (use the document camera for guided practice and to monitor students) - cutting strips, rolling coil, gluing coil, drying, attaching pieces. Phase 3: Thinking (Activities) - Engage Students in Higher Order Tasks --- The Thinking Time: 20 mins Students will: Need one paper and pencil per table Begin creating a design on a scrape piece of paper for a group mobile (tables) Teacher will: Approve the ideas before students begin quilling NEXT CLASS: Work will continue Teacher will assist students in hanging finished work in the windows Phase 4: Closure – Reflection / Assessment / Review / Evaluation --- The End Time:10mins View a variety of student work produced by students (emphasizing positives and suggested improvements) Clean up Enrichment: Include at least one activity or task that extends the lesson. This can be used for students who have completed the main tasks or if you have completed the lesson and have additional time. Work that is more delicate in nature can be done with narrow 1/8" strips of thinner paper. This paper can be rolled on a toothpick and pinched into elaborate shapes. Students that finish early will be encouraged to attempt more elaborate designs Remediation: Provide at least one example of how you could simplify the task for students having difficulty. Students experiencing difficulty may need assistance cutting, rolling and gluing paper. My create additions to mobile that are simpler to construct i.e., grass, stems for flowers etc. Teaching Method and Strategies Describe the teaching methods and strategies used. You may want to research these to acquire more information.
