Radio Host: Alright we are back. What an informative hour we had with the InvoiceCare.
Michael: That was very interesting. She was such a good speaker too.
Radio Host: She was and you know what? Collecting money is not probably anyone's favorite thing to do. It's just
what the way it is. I mean nobody wants to go ask for money that you've earned.
Michael: I don't mind. I'm pushy though.
Radio Host: Well you might want to get a job with IRS.
Michael: Yeah. I can do that.
Radio Host: Alright! welcome back everybody! Uhh, a quick look at the markets, the DOW Future dropped 59%,
what the heck went on last night? The SMP Future is up 4% and NASTEC is up 38% so wow markets look to open
up pretty strong.
Michael: It must be out of the strong shilling out of the Democratic committee at that...
Radio Host: Well, you know what? I will say this though. It gets me into my first news topic here.
Michael: Does it?
Radio Host: Well the Democrats draw twenty six million viewers on night one beating the Republicans. I'm gonna
go thumbs up here in the studio. Beating Republicans on their first night. Now the first night of the RNC averaged
twenty three million viewers and then last night 26, so a little bit more people watching the DNC than the RNC.
Umm, and for various reasons you could have some of the guest speakers or maybe could be some of the
anticipated what's gonna happen whenever you know is Bernie gonna walk out you know. Are they waiting for
drama to happen? We don't know.
Michael: The Bernie stuff or maybe the celebrities that the Democrats attract.
Radio Host: Or maybe some of the celebrities that were on there as well. Uhh, take a look at Apple, you know
we've been watching this and talking about this for a while. Apple shares are dropping slowly as the demand of
their product for the second straight quarter. We've had this conversation’ especially around Christmas time. Is the
market saturated? Does everyone have their iPad and iPod? Is cellphone demand is slowing down? Well, actually
it is. Uhh we'll see how some of the other manufacturers, Samsung what they post later as we see all these
earnings start to come out. Of course, Twitter came out yesterday after the bell. Down quite a bit not only in
revenue, but in users that they've added to Twitter and I did kind of sampling poll in the 7 o'clock. You know half
the people that have been on Twitter last three days and half the people who haven't. I tend to go on Twitter every
single day. But, as stories come out where they start to kind of take down the trending topics, I tend to wanna use
them less. That's just me though. Anyway, we'll keep an eye on that as well, but I do want to kind of jump right into
our first segment today. I love when BKM Sowan Horan comes on the show. Tim Horan good morning my friend?

Tim Horan: Good morning!
Radio Host: Alright! You've got a special guest and I've read the bio on our guest and I was like ''cool." He's kind
of... he's in my wheelhouse. I will bring in Greg Patterson. Good morning?
Greg Patterson: Hey there! How are you?
Radio Host: Good. You with the WaterTower Theatre?
Greg Patterson: That's right!
Radio Host: Addison.
Greg Patterson: Addison, Texas.
Radio Host: Good to see you in Addison. Tons of businesses in Addison.
Greg Patterson: It's huge actually. During the day, Addison gets like a hundred thousand people.
Radio Host: And I think it has more restaurants per capita than any city.
Greg Patterson: I'm told that. And it has the greatest theatre in the country too.
Radio Host: Let's talk about...
Greg Patterson: How long have you been there?
Radio Host: I have not been.
Greg Patterson: You have to change that.
Radio Host: I promise you. I know you've got some things coming up and you have my word that I will come out
and check it out. Uhh, let's talk about WaterTower Theatre.
Greg Patterson: Sure. What can I tell you?
Radio Host: Well its history background.
Greg Patterson: Well, this season we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. And we produce a mix of Broadway
musicals and comedies and dramas and if you came this fall, in October you'd see a production called the Music
of Johnny Cash. And in a couple of weeks we are presenting a really fun play called 'One Man Two Guvnors'. You
know James Corden who has late night show? Well, he did this show on Broadway and so we are bringing it here
and the guy who's doing the lead role was James Corden's understudy on Broadway.
Radio Host: Nice!
Greg Patterson: And he's just finishing up a run in Broadway. But he caught his start at WaterTower Theatre.
Like 15 years ago. He is a WaterTower Theatre baby and he grew up with us. You know we are a professional
nonprofit theater organization and the reason I know Tim from BKM Sowan Horan is because they are members of
our corporate council. Sponsors of many of our shows and so...

Radio Host: They are a great bunch of folks. They are.
Greg Patterson: They are fantastic. We love Tim and Daniele.
Radio Host: Yeah. And they are always involved in the community, in the arts, you know. Tim are you a big
theater buff?
Tim Horan: I am. Actually, there's a lot of few playwrights that I used to follow. But this theater is amazing. I don't
know how old is the theater itself.
Greg Patterson: We are twenty years old.
Tim Horan: The organization is twenty. How old is the building?
Greg Patterson: The building is like twenty five. And you know if you walked in the building today, you'd think it
was built yesterday. It's state of the art glass, stone. It's really a fantastic looking architectural structure.
Tim Horan: It is. The interesting thing about it Brian is the great thing about it is that the theater is very versatile. It
could be set up in a round or in the square, it could be set up traditionally. The seating can be moved around, the
stages can be moved around. It's very versatile. There's a lot of things that you can put there.
Radio Host: Now, when I moved to Dallas, I had no idea that the theater was as so thriving here in this town.
Greg Patterson: It's huge in Dallas.
Radio Host: It's huge in Fort Worth as well. I mean just the whole metropolis. Uhh, and fashion and design ... I
mean the whole of the arts.
Greg Patterson: We have theaters large and small, symphony, opera, dance and Dallas is a really arts-friendly
city. And this is a business show. So it's interesting to talk about the nonprofit business model because the arts
are the non profit organizations. Because we try make art as accessible as possible to everybody. Keep the ticket
prices low. So we try to raise money from our community friends like our corporate council, members and things
like that.
Radio Host: How difficult is that?
Greg Patterson: You know Dallas is a very generous city. You may recall they built this fantastic art center
downtown. The AT&T Performing Arts Center.
Radio Host: Absolutely!
Greg Patterson: Cost you know over two hundred million dollars. And that was all raised through private funds.
And that just shows you how generous the DFW metropolis is. In Addison, we have businesses like BKM Sowan
Horan that you know support us. We have over a hundred corporate council members now. Local businesses,
large and small.
Radio Host: You know you see studies and you actually have North Texas Day of Giving?

Tim Horan: That's right.
Radio Host: Coming up...
Tim Horan: It's on September 22nd.
Radio Host: There you go. Do you guys play any part in that?
Tim Horan: We participate in that.
Radio Host: It's great way because your donations are doubled or matched. They are matched.
Tim Horan: They are matched yeah. We raise about a million dollars a year and contributing come from donations
from individuals, corporations, foundations, the town of Addison is a huge supporter of ours. And then the rest
come from ticketing. And in addition to what we do on our stage, we have a great arts education program where
we go into schools, we bring the arts to kids. We have a summer performing arts camp for kids.
Radio Host: Very cool.
Tim Horan: So we are really involved in that community in many, many, ways.
Radio Host: How did you get involved in theater?
Tim Horan: Oh my God!
Radio Host: Yeah, do we have enough time for that? The show runs till 9 o'clock.
Tim Horan: Yeah. The last 40 years or so.
Greg Patterson: I've worked my entire career in the arts; in dance, in opera, in theater, some commercial theater.
I did a gig once with Andy Williams and people like that and so the arts have always played an important part of
my life.
Radio Host: You've got a great voice by the way. Michael does he not have a great voice?
Greg Patterson: Do I?
Michael: Wonderful.
Radio Host: Wonderful voice. And Mike's an audio guy and Michael, he's gonna recognize that.
Greg Patterson: Really? Maybe I should have a radio program.
Radio Host: Well, we have one here runs 7 to 9. Based on that you might be sitting in the chair next to me.
Michael: He sounds more like an evening radio story teller kind of guy.
Greg Patterson: Do I? Really?

Michael: Absolutely yes!
Greg Patterson: I can change my voice though.
Radio Host: He does sound like you could just tell a story like...
Greg Patterson: I'd be happy to.
Radio Host: Uhh, so as a kid did you grew up in theater?
Greg Patterson: You know my parents were always interested in the arts and so from early, early days I was
brought to the theater by my parents. Symphony and dance and theater and then I went to university, and I
actually have a degree in journalism and theater. An art combination, but it kind of works.
Radio Host: They work! Think about this for a second, giving a speech, right now we elect people based on how
great their speech was maybe not how great the policy is.
Greg Patterson: We were talking about that just moments ago. That you know the politics is really all about
theater. You know who can rouse a crowd. That you know the politics is really all about theater. You know, who
can rouse and browse the crowd, you know.
Radio Host: That's it! So you on it. You onto something there. Umm, so you fell in love with the arts?
Greg Patterson: You know the arts are a really important part of my life and when I see kids get involved in
theater and in music, it really allows them to express their imagination and can really change their lives in ways
that... you know sports is important, but the arts allows you to just explore who you are.
Radio Host: I've got three kids all of them. Lexi loves acting, loves dance. All my kids love music and acting and
arts so I agree with you. There's sports and that's great and they still play sports, but the arts puts them more in
touch with those things.
Greg Patterson: And you know it's great when businesses like BKM Sowan Horan realize the importance of the
arts in our community and they get involved in their local professional theater company and so we are very
appreciative of their support because they are the ones that really make it happen consistently year after year
without them we wouldn't be around.
Radio Host: I agree. Uhh, we'll take a break, come back, quick check in the markets DOW Future is now up 63%
SMP up 5.5% and the NASTEC is up 39%. You are listening to DFW Business Today. We'll be right back.
15301 Dallas Parkway, Suite 960 Addison, Texas 75001- Phone: 214.545.3965 Fax: 214.545.3966 www.bkmsh.com
BKMSH and WaterTower Theatre
Radio Host: Yeah. You like that?
Greg Patterson: That's the music of Johnny Cash.
Radio Host: Yes it is. For some reason he says it. Well can we just ... for a second. It just has a certain feeling.
Michael: Wonderful isn't it?
Radio Host: Yeah it's wonderful. I'd say I'm just some jackass saying it. If he says it, it's just like something
special. Anyway looking into a quick story, more and more people are retiring on a cruise ship. And I'll open up this
dialogue real quickly. Does that entice you at all to retire and live on a cruise ship?
Greg Patterson: Not at all.
Radio Host: At all. Really?
Greg Patterson: No.
Radio Host: Tim.
Tim Horan: Yeah, I think it would for about a couple of years as long as it can turn around and sail that a couple of
years.
Michael: That's right. I know somebody who did that.
Radio Host: It's amazing because more and more people are choosing to live and retire on these cruise ships.
Upto 24 million people are doing it compared to 15 million just ten years ago. Uhh it is kind of pricey. So it tends to
come out to about a $135 a day. Is what in terms of what it's gonna cost you.
Greg Patterson: Oh yeah! But, I guess if you want a non-commitment life then that's perfect...
Radio Host: Yeah.
Michael: Just look out for pirates.
Radio Host: Yeah! On the other end it could cost $229 a day for a private room and a nursing home or wow! Or
$3293 per month for a one bedroom in an assisted living facility.
Michael: Yeah, but who thinks about retiring to those places?
Radio Host: Yeah, well some people may not have much choice I guess. Anyway, we are hanging out with Greg
Patterson, he is a managing director of the WaterTower Theatre and Tim Horan from BKM Sowan Horan. Great to
have you guys on the show. I love the fact that you always bringing partners Tim, onto the show that are involved
in the community and today it's the first time you've looked at someone in the arts.

BKMSH and WaterTower Theatre
Greg Patterson: It's great to be here. You know we were hearing the music of Johnny Cash and we are doing
production called the music of Johnny Cash 'Caught During a Fire' in October coming up. And in fact, you can get
tickets now if you want. And we do a lot of shows like that. We did production a couple of years ago based on the
life of Hank Williams. The great country master and singer. And so if you've not been to WaterTower Theatre, it is
a 200-seat, flexible space, really intimate experience and you can enjoy things like Ring of Fire. We do usually a
holiday production and next summer we are doing one of Stephen Sondheim’s great musicals called 'Sunday in
the park with George,' but in a couple of weeks, if you wanna escape the heat of Texas summer we have this
really fun production called 'One Man, Two Guvnors'. It's one of those, umm, just slapstick verses where people
are running through doors and are slamming doors and you remember the late night talk show host, James
Corden? Well he did this production on Broadway a few years ago. A big, big, hit and so we are happy to bring it
here with our guide by the name of Brian Gonzalez who is currently starring on Broadway in Atlastin. Uhh, got his
start at WaterTower Theatre towers so, yeah.
Radio Host: Yeah, so you've seen people over the years have their career launched just from WaterTower
Theatre, being local?
Greg Patterson: Many, many, many! Artists have found their starts and think of WaterTower Theatre as their
home. And they've gone on to national and international careers. There's a local singer by the name of Liz
Michael. Uhh, she does a lot here and at Dallas Theater Center and she's performed on Broadway. A singer by
the name of Dennis Lee who's very popular here and we are very proud of the fact that we do a lot with our local
artist community.
Radio Host: Let me ask you a question, we've seen a lot of budget cuts in education and one of the first
curriculum that goes is arts and music. Uhh, what's your thoughts on that?
Greg Patterson: You know it's kind of sad that it does. Because when I've seen kids participate in our arts
education programs, kids that you know shine, introverted and you know the arts just have a way of allowing kids
and adults to express themselves in ways that they can't in other areas and so I think the arts are really a valuable
tool for children and schools and it is sad that the arts cut first when it actually should be cut last I think.
Radio Host: Yeah, we had an organization last week we talked about this summer camp for kids and keeping kids
engaged and off the streets and out of trouble. Arts and music is just one way to do that. And so we can all agree
that doing that does kind of help someone to go in the right direction.
15301 Dallas Parkway, Suite 960 Addison, Texas 75001- Phone: 214.545.3965 Fax: 214.545.3966 www.bkmsh.com
BKMSH and WaterTower Theatre
Greg Patterson: Yeah, it's a way to express themselves and you know express their imaginations and you know
being expressive and using your imagination is useful in any walk of life. Whether you are a lawyer, accountant,
and so, the arts play an important role.
Radio Host: Yeah. A lot of arts going on at BKM Sowan Horan. Hahahaha!
Greg Patterson: Well, there's an important tax date coming up on September 15th I'm told.
Tim Horan: Well, the things that we are working on right now to get busy all the business returns that had
calendar year and partnerships, corporations all due on September 15th it's quite a bit.
Radio Host: How do you stay so relaxed?
Tim Horan: Me?
Radio Host: Yeah.
Tim Horan: Go on a vacation.
Radio Host: Yeah, did you just come off a vacation?
Tim Horan: I just came off a vacation.
Radio Host: Where did you go?
Tim Horan: I went to Punta Mita, which is a resort outside of Puerto Vallarta.
Radio Host: Nice.
Tim Horan: Yeah, great family vacation. Wonderful.
Radio Host: Felt safe?
Tim Horan: Very safe. Very safe.
Radio Host: That's the first thing I was asked when I go to Mexico, "felt safe?"
Greg Patterson: Now, Brian you have entertainment. You had a couple of bands?
Radio Host: Yeah. I do a lot of entertainment stuff. I love arts. I love music. I took theater in college. I wasn't very
good. Just being honest. I just knew it wasn't my I'd say very good. I was surrounded by amazing talented people
and I thought "okay I'm not a part of that group yet." And so I went a different route, but I think it's very good for
kids to get involved in art and dance. I think to let them have an outlet to express their emotions, especially is
when kids are going through certain things they are just growing up, being a kid. Umm I think it's great.
Greg Patterson: And adults too you know. I mean theater is a great way to enjoy and experience with lots of other
people and to share ideas and to understand different perspectives in life.

Radio Host: Let me ask you a question, on that note. I know several people, millennials ,that got into standup
comedy. That impro places because they felt like in life that's one of the things they wanted to do. And that's an
excellent point. You know if one way you are stuck in a job and you just feel like you are just missing something
out in life, get in a theater! Right? It's never too late.
Greg Patterson: Absolutely. Go to the theater. Get involved in theater. You know the theater is just a great way to
sooth the soul as they say.
Radio Host: Hahaha. Or just take a vacation as Tim does. Do that too. Yeah. Umm, alright so the company
WaterTower Theatre in Addison, how often, I'm on your website here. I'm trying to see the calendar...
Greg Patterson: We are a year round theater.
Radio Host: Okay. I was just gonna say you don't shut down for the season?
Greg Patterson: No. I mean we have a show this summer. We open again in the fall and we really perform year
round. We have two theaters, main space theater, a smaller studio theater and as I mentioned earlier when we are
not performing, we go out to schools,we bring kids into our theater. So we are just active all the time.
Radio Host: I wanna put you on the spot for a second. Yeah. I feel like you can handle this question. What is your
favorite Broadway production? I mean ever. What don't you see that you just said, "Yep that's my favorite."
Greg Patterson: Oh my gosh! You did put me on the spot. Yeah.
Radio Host: Because you could have several.
Greg Patterson: Well, I do. You know I love Broadway musicals. There are a certain particular genre. But, I also
love, you know the American classics like 'All My Sons', Eugene O'Neil’s 'Long Day's Journey into Night,' stories
that are really great. And tell an important story. But, then I also like to go to the theater and just have a great
time.
Radio Host: During the Christmas? Hahaha.
Greg Patterson: Yeah. Well yeah.
Radio Host: I dressed up as a woman for a show like that in a Christmas. That was fun.
Greg Patterson: Really? Where did you do that?
Radio Host: At Casa Hose and penny hose and everything. A dress.
Greg Patterson: Casa is a great theater company.
Radio Host: Great little company you right.

BKMSH and WaterTower Theatre
Greg Patterson: Yeah. In Fort Worth. Fort Worth in Dallas, has some of the best theater companies in the
country. You know it's such a vibrant art city and the community is so supportive of its arts and its artists.
Radio Host: I'm glad you on the show and for more information on WaterTower Theatre you can go to
http://www.watertowertheatre.org/ .
Greg Patterson: Absolutely!
Radio Host: It's just that simple. Uhh as we go to break let's kind of check a report came out yesterday on
Mortgage Applications are down 11%, but is up 42% compared to this time last year. It is 8:28. Dow is up 61 the
NASTEC is up 39% and the SMP is up as well 5 points. We'll see you in a few.
Radio Host: Alright! We are back! We are bad to the bone. We are quite frankly, we are really bad to the bone.
Tim Horan from BKM Sowan Horan in the studio. Good morning my friend!
Tim Horan: Good morning!
Radio Host: Did you ever be in a school play at all? Was little Timmy ever an actor? Hahahaha.
Tim Horan: In elementary school, yes. In high school, no. I kind of wish I would. I did when I graduated from
college. I lived in West Texas for three years and I volunteered at the community theater there. And it was just
basically do whatever sell concessions, clean up do whatever, but it was great.
Radio Host: Okay! You were more operational.
Tim Horan: Yeah. Sure. I had been terrible at acting.
Michael: A lot of the actors and actresses at these smaller theaters. Do the concessions as well when they are not
on stage?
Greg Patterson: They do yes. I mean and you know theater takes artists on stage and artistes backstage.
Because what you see on stage when the curtain goes up is really only half of what happens when the show is
happening. There are people running the show back stage, there's a crew there's lighting people, sound all of that.
Radio Host: Michael, you like that you might call the audio stuff?
Michael: I've actually done lighting for a theater at college.
Radio Host: Oh! really?
Michael: So yeah.
Greg Patterson: And you know as you know being a sound guy, micing a show if you doing a musical is a real
art.
15301 Dallas Parkway, Suite 960 Addison, Texas 75001- Phone: 214.545.3965 Fax: 214.545.3966 www.bkmsh.com
BKMSH and WaterTower Theatre
Michael: Yeah, that's complex.
Greg Patterson: Yeah, mix the sound right so the band and the voices are all mixing and one is not drowning the
other out and it's a real art. In fact, people go to school, get degrees and sound and engineering and theater,
lighting and costuming and absolutely.
Radio Host: I think my first play was Santa Claus. The Christmas in elementary. I mean I was Santa Claus. I still
remember making the beard and everything.
Greg Patterson: Don't know if it's possible... you know. You quite a slim guy.
Radio Host: Yeah I know.
Greg Patterson: You had that...
Radio Host: But, you know I think every kid to a certain degree wants to get involved in a play in elementary and I
think kind of sticking with that and deciding if that's the path they want to go you know. How many people do you
have employed at your theater?
Greg Patterson: Well, full-time you know we are a compact organization because it's important that the resources
we bring in mostly go on stage so we have ten full time. But, if you add all the part time and seasonal people,
probably in total two hundred. Throughout the year not a doubt any given time, but throughout the year.
Radio Host: Tim I'm gonna ask you this question, and since they are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit right?
Tim Horan: That's right!
Radio Host: Tell me how companies donate to that. And how easy it is.
Tim Horan: It very easy to donate anything like that. Everything is taxed, deductible, cash contributions are tax
deductible.
Radio Host: What if they donate like an appliance…?
Greg Patterson: In kind.
Radio Host: In kind.
Tim Horan: Sure, there are things like that depending on what your basis is and what you are donating in kind.
Greg Patterson: Donate for a cash. Cash is good.
Radio Host: It's easier.
15301 Dallas Parkway, Suite 960 Addison, Texas 75001- Phone: 214.545.3965 Fax: 214.545.3966 www.bkmsh.com
BKMSH and WaterTower Theatre
Tim Horan: It's so much, much easier in this line. And for other not-for-profits that there are some good things out
there, if you are in the restaurant business, there's a lot of easy ways to donate food now that you used to not be
able to as an S corporation and get a good tax reduction. Those things are good, but for WaterTower Theatre cash
is great. But, it's easy to do a sponsorship like we do, which is deductible, which you get another question, is that a
sponsorship or is that a charitable contribution? If you'd like to talk about that you can call me we can talk about
what is deductible or when you do something like that, but as individuals, it's an easy deduction.
Greg Patterson: I would imagine Tim you have conversations with people with significant means that are planning
their state means that are planning their estate and there are tax benefits by doing a estate planning now, where
you can actually give to a nonprofit now. You can set up a...
Tim Horan: Charitable unitrusts, there's a lot of different ways that you can donate and you can run a life
insurance program too that I've seen and I'm sure people try to sell that to you before but ...
Greg Patterson: Well, we have a number of donors who have said that we are in their estate plan. And those gifts
go into our endowment and for an arts organization, an endowment is like anyone who has a savings account. It
provides a level of security for the future. And so we encourage those donors who really love the arts and love
theater to think about WaterTower Theatre when they are doing their estate planning and I could send them to you
Tim.
Radio Host: There you go. There's a relationship right there. Hahaha. Speaking of wealth, did you know that
Amazon's Jeff Bezos moves past Buffet on the world's richest list. He moved up to number 3 on the list.
Tim Horan: I didn't make it on that list.
Radio Host: Tim, you, Michael, I don't think any of us were on that. But Warren Buffett lost more than
$754,000,000 on Thursday, thanks to a slide in his company so I would imagine that guy had that much net worth
Tim when things shift in the market so goes the money.
Tim Horan: Oh yeah! Buffet. .. He's quit keeping score a long time ago. I'm sure he does and I'm sure they look at
it it's just that that slip is not gonna bother him. I mean I don't think he's gonna buy anything else.
Radio Host: And that's funny I remember when Amazon first came out. It took them forever to become in the
black. It took the company, I mean years and they just recently became in the black. And I don't know how they
kept investors coming in knowing that it would just kept losing money.
Tim Horan: Well, I don't know. Any cash that they did make, they invested it in the company. And they spent a lot
of time building that out and it's an amazing organization sometimes scary to me that are we going to destroy our
main street market.

BKMSH and WaterTower Theatre
Radio Host: The brick and mortar. Yeah, now I agree with you and we found out last Christmas shopping season
how more and more people gravitated towards these online shopping rather than going to the bricks and mortar. I
just saw a report yesterday about Kmart actually and there was a buzz within the employees that Kmart was
getting ready to close down a lot the remaining stores they had.
Tim Horan: Yeah, that's kind of a sad story in itself that was 20 years in the making but the ... it's kind of amazing.
The way I describe it now with Amazon we were kids that grew up with Sears or a JC Penny catalogue and it
comes out. You look at it and if you are in a small town that didn't have one of those stores, you went to the
catalogs store, you ordered it, you waited for it, and you got it and then we moving to you know the Walmarts and
hey it's right there it's at a cheap price you go get it. You got it instant gratification now we are moving back to hey
we are looking at it online. We are looking at a catalog, we don't get to see it, we don't get to touch it, we don't get
to try it on, but we are gonna wait have them send it to us in three or four days.
Radio Host: I remember when they first, when shopping online first came about I was working for a company in
California one of the guys I work with quit because he was going to build websites. I was like "what are you gonna
do?" He was like http://www.gap.com/. Eventually, you'll go to the http://www.gap.com/ and you'll buy a shirt. I
was like that's ridiculous. Who's gonna go buy a shirt online?
Greg Patterson: I know.
Radio Host: How little did I know?
Greg Patterson: And look at the music industry. Years ago they used to be you know record stores or you know
and now ... there aren't any records you buy everything online you just download.
Radio Host: Yeah, I will say this though. There's a record company they manufacture. It's called A & R Records in
Dallas. They are the busiest, they've been in 35 years. Because all the other vinyl went out of business and they
are still standing.
Greg Patterson: Vinyl is coming back.
Radio Host: The Vinyl is coming back and I had the pleasure of watching them stamp out albums, unbelievable.
Greg Patterson: Really?
Radio Host: I just challenge anybody to give them a call and say can I please watch the next time you stamp an
album? It's an incredible process.
Tim Horan: Why is Vinyl coming back? Is the sound better?
Radio Host: No. What do you think Mike? What do you think the theory on that is? You think it's just kind of the
millennials are just kind of kicking it old school so to say?

Michael: The sound I believe is richer. It has more of the artifacts, the actual artifacts of the live performance are
captured I believe.
Tim Horan: I do too. As a kid growing up the annoying his was a scratch.
Michael: Oh! yeah, they've kind of eliminated that.
Radio Host: Have they eliminated that?
Michael: Yeah, with the modern system to play it back you can eliminate a lot of that hiss, background hiss.
They've got compensate us for that.
Tim Horan: I believe the music is a lot richer. It's like, it's the difference between listening to satellite radio and a
radio station broadcasting locally.
Radio Host: Good point. It's actually a great analogy too. That's a great analogy. It's music hour here on 620AM.
Love music. You love music?
Greg Patterson: I love music. Yeah.
Radio Host: Who do you listen to?
Greg Patterson: You know I listen to all types. But, I like mostly the oldies you know Frank Sinatra, Mandy
Williams, Barbra Streisand.
Radio Host: Yeah. I would probably say Nat King Cole.
Greg Patterson: And Nat King Cole great singer.
Radio Host: I absolutely love that!
Greg Patterson: You don't meet singers like that.
Radio Host: They don't.
Michael: Back in that error my favorite was Jo Stafford. She was great. I loved her duets with all those guys from
back then too.
Radio Host: Tim who do you listen to?
Tim Horan: I listen to everything. I have kids. I have a 23 year old son that listens to... has a bigger range of music
than I have in terms of years and what he listens to. Fortunately, we share same Apple account, same Amazon
Prime account so I have all his music, he has my music...
Radio Host: That's awesome! It's a good connection thinking about that because I didn't have that connection
with my parents. My parents, they didn't listen to music and I loved it. So there wasn't a crossover at all except for
Kenny Loggins and ABBA going on road trips.
Michael: My parents had a huge Vinyl collection so they were always playing music in the house so that was my
collection too. I would listen to all their stuff.

Radio Host: The first Vinyl record we ever had was Michael Jackson 'Off The Wall'. That's the first one I ever had.
Michael: Wow. Okay!
Radio Host: And my sister had Acey Duecy and I thought it was a devil. And so I took the album and I broke it up
in the front yard.
Michael: Hahahaha! You are hilarious.
Radio Host: No I'm serious and I got my butt kicked for that. She beat me down. And then still you know I regret
doing that obviously, I would like to have that original but yeah, something about music that connects people.
Greg Patterson: It does.
Radio Host: And I think you know one of the things you brought up earlier is ... When you go to an event and you
can see people of every race, every color, every religion, and they are all there for the love of music?
Greg Patterson: Absolutely. Or the art or whatever is happening on stage whether it's you know ... or some
theatrical experience.
Radio Host: There's something very special about that.
Greg Patterson: There's an energy that connects people which doesn't happen in a sports arena and it's unique.
Radio Host: I would agree with you on that.
Greg Patterson: It's unique.
Radio Host: You'll see fans fight each other. You don't see people watching dance or theater fight each other.
Greg Patterson: We frown on them.
Radio Host: Hahaha. I don't think I've ever had of a story people getting in a fight in a theater. Were'd you see
people tangled up in a sports game?
Greg Patterson: Absolutely.
Radio Host: No offence. It's crazy. Alright we are hanging out this morning with Greg Patterson, he's the
managing director at WaterTower Theatre over at Addison. I plan on coming by and seeing you by the way. I really
do.
Greg Patterson: Come this summer to see 'One Man, Two Guvnors' all in the fall, The Music of Johnny Cash.
Radio Host: I love it. And of course we'll talk about after the break you can arrange to have your company take a
tour of the theater or come in a group in other words. ...
Greg Patterson: Come as a group.
Radio Host: Come as a group.
Greg Patterson: Absolutely.
Radio Host: Alright we'll talk about that in a second. Coca cola beats earnings, but cuts revenue forecast. Have a
Coke and a smile and some sugar and everything that comes with it. We'll be right back!

Radio Host: Alright! We are back! 8:50, wrapping up our conversation with Tim Horan from BKM Sowan Horan.
Love it when you guys come on. And Greg Patterson managing director over at the WaterTower Theatre in
Addison. And I love it in the break we were talking about music. As a kid growing up what did you listen to?
Greg Patterson: You know the oldies. Oldies, The Beach Boys, people like Rolling Stones and then I loved just
some of the big old singers. You know big old singers you know Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand.
Radio Host: It's funny people either Beatles or Stones.
Greg Patterson: Yeah.
Radio Host: So you were a Stone guy?
Greg Patterson: Yeah.
Radio Host: So am I. You gonna say Beetles.
Greg Patterson: But, the Beetles are classic though.
Tim Horan: Yeah, Beetles. But, I'm older than you so back the fight between the Beetles and the Stones. It was
the Beatles and the The Dave Clark Five, if you remember those guys.
Radio Host: No, I'm familiar with them, but not familiar with them.
Tim Horan: They had a TV show too.
Radio Host: That's what exposed them to me. It wasn't the music it was the TV show.
Greg Patterson: And then, it was like all that Bubblegum music like The Partridge Family and...
Michael: The Archies.
Greg Patterson: The Archies.
Michael: Oh my gosh! My mum loved them.
Radio Host: Yeah. TV was great back then.
Greg Patterson: I know.
Radio Host: It was very family...
Greg Patterson: Those great TV variety shows, The Judy Garland Show you know and all those great show Perry
Como you know.
Radio Host: Hee Haw.
Greg Patterson: I remember that really?
Radio Host: Come on now. You know you watched Hee Haw. Did you not watch Hee Haw?
Tim Horan: I don't think so.

Radio Host: Did you watch Hee Haw? Come on! Does someone watch Hee Haw?
Tim Horan: I grew up in Texas so yeah.
Radio Host: Michael please tell me you watched Hee Haw.
Michael: I watched a couple of episodes, but I like the Mandrell Sisters Specials better. Barbara Mandrell. Yes.
Greg Patterson: And then suddenly their variety format just died.
Radio Host: Yeah, it did. I don't know what happened.
Greg Patterson: And now we into all those reality TV shows.
Radio Host: We at The Carol Burnett Show?
Greg Patterson: Yeah, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, I think had a TV show. Dean Martin Show.
Michael: Dean Martin absolutely.
Radio Host: You know what I'm doing right now? I'm trying to pull Hee Haw.
Michael: Why would you do that?
Radio Host: Because it's a great sound bite? I'm trying to find it on YouTube.
Michael: You are hilarious!
Greg Patterson: Well, I think Dallas theaters last year did something called 'Hee Haw: The Musical' .No they did.
Radio Host: Hahahaha. That's American pop culture right there and the South. Growing up in the South. Uhh,
let's talk financials for a little bit if you can disclose what you can, but how have you seen the trend go as far as
giving to the theater is operating?
Greg Patterson: Well, the national trend and our trend is individual giving is up every year. Corporate giving is a
little flat and has been for a number of years. But, individual giving is where most nonprofits focus. Even in a
challenging economy individuals find the tax breaks that you get really important. And I always get really anxious
when I hear politicians talk about getting you know doing away with the tax breaks that people get from charitable
giving. Because nonprofits rely on that.
Radio Host: They rely on them.
Greg Patterson: Absolutely. I mean it's one of the key motivators not certainly the main one. I mean people
believe in your vision, but it's one of the key motivators. Isn't it Tim for people to make charitable giving?

Tim Horan: Sure. It's you know, you can get into a whole political discussion. There is Bernie Sanders didn't like
charities. He would like to get rid of them because he thought the government should do it, but one small
government person that thinks that they don't do hardly anything well whereas the WaterTower Theatre can be
nimble and do things well so you get more bang for your buck, more enjoyment. By giving your money to an
organization like the WaterTower Theatre that you can actually see the benefit of it right in front of your eyes. So
good point.
Greg Patterson: I think with that model you get more people engaged in what you do and you get more
community support... I mean I think government involvement in the arts is great. But, it shouldn't be the sole
source of revenue for nonprofits. You want people to believe in you and get behind you and that's how we thrive.
Radio Host: See, if you guys remember this. Come on men!
Michael: I've never heard that.
Radio Host: Oh my goodness!
Greg Patterson: I have never had that either.
Radio Host: What!
Greg Patterson: No. I have to say.
Radio Host: I gotta say...Tim are you very surprised with this?
Tim Horan: I am kind of surprised. I think there's a lot of people that would admit to knowing that.
Radio Host: I've got no shame so I'll give you a bunch on that.
Michael: Is that Roy Clark?
Radio Host: No that was not Roy Clark.
Michael: It sounds like Roy Clark though.
Radio Host: Yeah, let me see. I don't remember with the picture, I don't recognize pictures on here and I should...
Michael: I thought you were gonna play the Hee Haw intro.
Tim Horan: I'm pretty sure if you are doing trivia for money then people would know it.
Michael: Yeah. No, I've never heard of that song Brian.
Radio Host: It's interesting!
Michael: What was that? When did it come out?
Radio Host: The year it came out I don't know. I'll have to Wikipedia Hee Haw. But it's one of the longest
running... It was one of the longest running TV when there were genres they had TV live shows in history.
Michael: It was definitely a Variety show.
Radio Host: Variety show, yeah. Good stuff.

Tim Horan: It was actually based off, I believe without even knowing, I'm guessing it was based off Laugh-in it’s
what I think.
Greg Patterson: That was one of my favorite shows.
Radio Host: That was one of your favorite shows and it was actually done from a local TV station, came in the
market and it was just done just as a local show and then more and more people saw it from other affiliates said
"that's a pretty cool show do you mind if we share it?" and that's how it got syndicated and then literally today the
very TV station that it broadcast out of is still there. They've changed, it's a different format obviously. It's a new
station now. But it would no variety show attached to it. But, yeah good stuff. Uhh the website is

Greg Patterson: 972-450-6232.
Radio Host: There you go. Located on Addison road. Umm, and you can just pick your restaurant you wanna go
eat at. I love it.
Greg Patterson: And you know we are right off that way, it’s 20 minutes from downtown Dallas.
Radio Host: Easy!
Greg Patterson: Easy!
Radio Host: Tim always good to see you. It really is. And I said that before when you were coming to the show I
felt like I haven't seen you in a long time.
Tim Horan: It's been about 4 weeks. Thanks for having me on the show!
Radio Host: Now that I know that you were travelling on vacation. Alright, we are gonna put all this information on
our website, http://www.620amkexb.com/ immediately after the show. Have a great day we'll see you back here 7
