Distributive Property and Combining Like Terms
Vocabulary Constant - a term without a variable (3, 8, -4)
Coefficient - the number in front of a variable (3x, 7xy, 9y)
Term - Each part that is separated by a plus or minus sign in
an algebraic expression
3x + 7y
5y - 7xy + 14x - 8
7mn - 6m + 10
Like Terms - Terms that have the same variable attached to
it. Variables have to be the exact same including the exponents.

To simplify an expression:
1. Apply distributive property where necessary.
2. Combine like terms.
3. Put terms in alphabetical order... x comes before y.
3y + 4xy - 7x2 + 5 - 2xy + 18x - 9y + 10 - 3x2 - 12x
Examples:
-4(x + 5) - 3x
-(-7 - y) + 3(y - 4) - 8
