1) Purpose:
a) This procedure describes the sub-process of water quality monitoring which is necessary for
Tanauan Water District (TWD) to continue to provide potable water to its customers.
2) Scope
a) Covers bacteriological & physical chemical test, and residual related activities.
3) Responsibilities
a) Water Quality and Production Section – is the team, under Engineering Service division,
responsible for the monitoring of water quality, ensure compliance to applicable standard and
resolving issues related to water quality, if any.
4) Definitions
a) Chlorination – An assurance of protection of the microbiological quality and the process of
adding the element chlorine to water disinfection to make it fit for human consumption as
drinking water. (PNSDW 2007)
b) Residual Chlorine – An indication of sufficiency of treatment or chlorination. (PNSDW 2007)
c) Physical Chemical Test - a laboratory test conducted to determine the acceptability of the
physical (e.g. taste, odor, color, turbidity, hardness,pH) and chemical properties of water (e.g
aluminum, chloride,copper, hydrogen sulphide, iron, manganese , sodium, sulphate, total
dissolved solids, zinc).
d) Sampling point - refer to taps or faucets where water samples are taken on a regular or random
basis. (PNSDW 2007)
5) Guidelines
a) Bacteriological test shall be conducted at least once a month, not later than the 2nd week of
each month.
b) Acceptable limits for each physical and chemical property shall complied with the requirements
stipulated in Article V, item 1.4.5, table 1 of PNSDW 2007.
c) Tests shall be conducted by DOH accredited third party laboratory only.
