Eureka Police Department PRESS RELEASE Eureka Police Department 604 C Street Eureka, CA 95501 Phone: (707) 441-4060 FAX: (707) 441-4334 5/19/2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Subject: Press Release - Eureka POP Unit Drug House Raids Net 9 Arrests Contact: Sergeant Steve Watson Front Desk (707) 441-4060 POP Office (707) 441-4373 Work Cell (707) 601-5464 On Wednesday, 5/19/10, the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit, augmented by Patrol officers, served search warrants at two Eureka drug houses. The warrants were in response to on-going complaints from concerned citizens about drug dealing occurring in and around the residences. At approximately 8:30 AM, officers served a search warrant on a residence in the 2800 block of E Street. During a search of the home, officers located a large indoor marijuana grow that was clearly outside the provisions of the single Proposition 215 card the residents were able to produce. A total of approximately 159 marijuana plants in various stages of growth (clones, starters, immature plants, and “mother” plants) were seized, along with approximately one pound of processed marijuana. Officers also located drug use paraphernalia including “crack” pipes and numerous (hundreds) hypodermic syringes, along with a small quantity of heroin and suspected crack cocaine. A double barrel percussion cap/muzzle loading pistol, which appeared to be a working, concealable firearm, was located and seized in the bedroom of one of the suspects. Additionally, officers located evidence of drug sales in the residence including digital gram scales, pay and owe notes, and packaging materials. Michael David Woody, 55 of Eureka, was arrested inside the residence and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for possession of a controlled substance, maintaining a space for purposes of drug sales, unlawful possession of hypodermic syringes, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Woody’s cell phone received text messages in the officers’ presence from subjects wanting to purchase various quantities of heroin from him. $1,552.00 cash found on Woody’s person was also seized by officers as suspected drug sales proceeds. Officers also found and arrested Rochell Lovell Frison, 45 of Eureka, in a small trailer behind the house. During a search of Frison’s trailer, officers found approximately 5 ounces of concentrated cannabis (hash), a small quantity of crack cocaine, and 2 digital gram scales. Frison also had over $3,000.00 cash on his person, which was seized as suspected drug sales proceeds. Frison was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for possession of a controlled substance for sale, maintaining a space for purposes of drug sales, and possession of concentrated cannabis. Eureka Police Department PRESS RELEASE Additionally, officers cited Frison and resident Jack Anthony Smith (40 of Eureka) for related Eureka Municipal Code (EMC) violations. ### At about 2:45 PM, officers served a second search warrant at a residence in the 2500 block of C Street and detained 10 subjects. During a search of the large Victorian home, officers located suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms, small quantities of heroin and methamphetamine, scales, and numerous items of drug use paraphernalia (hypodermic syringes, methamphetamine pipes, burnt aluminum foil and spoons etc.). The following suspects were arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility: • Pamela A. Bizieff, 58 of Eureka, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. • Leonard Arnold Egland, 57 of Eureka, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of hypodermic syringes. • Kathleen Janette Huntress, 63 of Eureka, was arrested for maintaining a place for purposes of drug use/sales, possession of a controlled substance (heroin and methamphetamine), possession of suspected psilocybin (hallucinogenic mushrooms), possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of hypodermic syringes. Huntress is the owner of the house. • Warren Thomas Slay, 50 of Eureka, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia, and probation violation. • Patricia Susan Shay, 41 of Eureka, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of hypodermic syringes. • Daniel James Devenere, 57 of Eureka, was taken into custody for an outstanding DUI related misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Additionally, Gary Jim Savage, 67 of Eureka, was cited and released at the scene (due to health reasons) for possession of drug paraphernalia. The C Street residence is located approximately one block away from nearby Saint Bernard High School, a fact which may result in additional charges against Huntress. Anyone with information about drug sales activity occurring within the City of Eureka is encouraged to call the Problem Oriented Policing Unit at 441-4373. ###
