David Pavane Swing Kids - Stringz Aloud APRIL 7 SWING KIDS - STRINGS ALOUD Did you know that swing music was banned by the Nazis and became part of the resistance movement? That story tonight and the swing tunes of Don Kellett, Susan Vigneux and Joe Bourchier on bass. Like the last few times, Don and Susan will throw some great musical hooks and twists into their fun set at Crossroads. Multi-instrumentalists and multi-talented, these three will fill your musical plate tonight! APRIL 28 DAVID LOWE During 2016, while recording his CD Following the Sun, this long-time folk musician and singer-songwriter collaborated with several outstanding Victoria based musicians who added a distinctive, often more classical, flavour to the music, characterized perhaps as Chamber Folk. Enjoy an evening of David’s clear tenor vocals, and evocative finger style guitar, enriched by Moritz Behm on violin & mandolin, Michelle Carlisle (of Blackthorn) on piccolo & harmony vocals and Wynn Gogol on piano, bass & accordion. They will take you on a musical journey to places near and far, familiar and exotic, comfortable and daunting as together we will be Following the Sun, which is the title of David’s newly released CD. MAY 12 FRASER-HENDERSON Singer-songwriters Barb Fraser and Dennis Henderson (aka Fraser-Henderson) create and perform music that comes from the heart. Their songs speak to the things we all share: nature, relationships, and the simple pleasures of life. You will hear compelling stories created through the sweet interplay of voices and guitars! “Every story has a song; every song, a story” MAY 26 CLARA SHANDLER - SIDEWALK CELLIST Born into a musical family, Clara Shandler fell in love with the cello when she was just three years old. Her training as a classical musician focused on chamber music throughout her youth and she has since transformed those skills to play in rock bands, fiddle troupes, traditional Persian ensembles, new music groups and so much more. Clara completed her Bachelor of Music degree at UBC by teaching private cello students and sharing her music in a wide variety of private and public performances. She is now both the assistant strings teacher at the West Point Grey Academy and VP of the East Vancouver Community Music School. She travels to Cambodia and Burma every winter in order to share and teach music as part of a budding music program called ‘Singing Tree’.
