EXPANDED ACADEMIC ASAP
All students and staff have access to journal articles on a wide range of subjects including film, music and
computing through Expanded Academic ASAP.
Access:
Open a web browser and follow the link to databases from the library portal http://library.saeaustralia.edu.au/
You will be logged in automatically on campus.
If you are not on campus you will be prompted to login using your:

Password:
Student Number or Student Portal (Axis) Username
Day and month of birth in the format ddmm (10th Feb = 1002)
Basic search:
•
Type in a keyword or phrase that describes your topic.
Use the different options to search in different areas of the document
e.g. subject, publication title or entire document.
Search assist is useful for establishing additional keywords and will automatically drop down when you start typing.
Use the following Boolean Operators (AND, OR & NOT) to assist your search:
AND to search for articles containing both keywords e.g. sound AND film
OR to search for articles containing either keyword e.g. film OR television
NOT to exclude a keyword or phrase e.g. audio NOT music

Advanced search:

Refine your results using an Advanced Search.
Narrow the results by choosing to search in
particular fields such as Author, Title, Keyword,
Subject and more.
Choose AND, OR & NOT from the
drop down menu to combine, expand
and restrict keywords from your search.
Searching using the topic finder: •
Use the Topic Finder for a more visual display of your search.
Outer rings narrow down your topic to more specific terms.
The Inner ring displays broad topics related to your search.
Click on one of the pink arrows to further narrow your results. Type your search terms here.
Select an article
from the list of results.
