DISTRICT GOVENOR VISIT
District Governor Jan Weatherly's visit to our Enumclaw club, Tuesday, Nov. 15 th. Lions International Presidents
theme is: “New Mountains To Climb.” DG Jan’s theme: “Let Your Light Shine.” Both themes are evident in the
picture on the District Roster and hopefully lions will use both themes. DG wants Lions to lead through service
and invite others to come with a goal of 3 new lions this year.
DG Jan gives out longevity awards to: James Severson 10 years, George Collins and Dave McCrindle 20 years,
Greg Landwehr 25 years, Joe Chase 30 years, Jon Holmberg 35 years and
Doug Wagner 40 years. Over the top! Jon Holmberg was awarded the gold
golf ball for answering the total amount of longevity awarded, “ 180 years of
service.

CHRISTMAS SWAGS
Again the club made Christmas swags and much cheer at Jon Holberg’s airplane hanger. The plane was not in
the hanger as it was moved elsewhere. For those fair weather workers Jon had the back of the hanger
enclosed and the room is heated. Tables in the front area are set up to hold various food and drink. The swags
are made in an assembly line. Truck loads are taken
away for deliveries and to sell. President Mike Runland
sells the swags at his work. Sell as many as you can as
we have competition ever since PDG Emerson Bishop
left our club and showed them how it’s done. A little
competitiveness never hurt anyone! We still sell our
swags for only $10.00. Sumner Lions sells there’s for
$15.00. So get out there and sell, Sell, SELL!!!!

DICTIONARIES
This year there was a full
schedule with times, locations
and schools. The schools were in
Enumclaw, Black Diamond and
Buckley. Lions were to be at any
of the locations 10 minutes early,
it usually takes about 15 minutes
for each classroom and most of
the time they combine the
classrooms. It is a lot of fun and
the kids are great Steve Moergeli
said. Always a fund and
gratifying service the club does
every year.

100TH CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION By Angela Hunt
Wednesday, December 30th, Centennial Coordinator Bob Johnson, DG Jan and
myself are meeting with DuPont Lions Membership Chair Roy Coffey, to put
together our vision for the Centennial Celebration, and how the Lions of
Dupont can help us fulfill that vision. That includes
filling out the paperwork and securing for the Lions
birthday celebration, Saturday, August 12, 2017! We
will also be discussing what we need for this event,
such as: police security, garage pick up, port-a-potty’s,
awnings, bouncy toys, entertainment, volunteer help,
etc. We will talk about possible sponsors. Everyone’s
input is welcome so that event has everything in place
moving forward.

LIONS PROJECT NEW HOPE NW
November 21st President Pat Bucknell received a plaque award for his long time continuing hard work
for Lions Project New Hope NW. The award was presented by LPNHNW Marketing VP and 2VDG Ron
at the Council meeting in Key Peninsula. The board voted on and took the funds for the plaque out of
their pockets. So no money was taken out of the LPNHNW finances or checking account. Super job
Pat. Congratulations!
Let all of us be reminded to recognize and show appreciation to diligent dedicated people that are not
paid for their service. Why wait until wonderful people receive their award when they are seriously ill
or forever gone. Let them take pleasure having their award while they have many years left to enjoy
them.

NEW YEARS



Did you know Brazilians wear colored underwear the first day of the new year: pink brings love, yellow
prosperity, and white peace and happiness.
In some towns in Italy, you have to watch out for falling objects, as people shove their old sofas, chairs
and even refrigerators out of their windows on New Year's Eve.
In Ecuador, people make dummies, stuffed with straw, to represent the events of the past year. The
"ano viejo" effigies are burned at midnight, thus symbolically getting rid of the past.

KEY PENINSULA LIONS CLUB HOSTED COUNCIL MEETING
It was a stormy night. Sounds like the beginning of a story. It was raining, dark with swerved
roads and about an hours drive. But the rest of the evening made up for it. And what a night!
“Mountains to climb” with “Let your Light Shine” it did with excellent notoriety and many
awards.
DG Jan Weatherly wrote: "Many thanks for
contributing to the Cabinet meeting on Monday
night. Key Peninsula did a marvelous job
hosting and feeding us; plans, reports and
official business was conveyed; contests were
judged; and most importantly we enjoyed each
other’s company with respect for our
differences and focus on like goals."
