FOREWORD
In 2005, Amici started a water heating revolution in the Philippines. We introduced the innovative Fireflux
heat pump water heaters for the commercial market. These heat pump water heaters utilize ambient air to
economically and efficiently produce hot water. The market shifted from boilers, skipping solar heating for heat
pump heating, and never looked back.
Now, 10 years after, Amici is again ready to lead water heating technology further, this time in your homes
and the residential market. For instant heating, we have introduced Atmor Thermostatic heaters that modulate
electrical use to minimum needed for an enjoying bath. Even more important, our A. O. Smith lineup of hybrid
water heaters is finally complete. We now have a range from 20 gallons suitable for condominiums up to 120
gallons for large homes and commercial establishments. These two key drivers deliver savings, intelligence,
and experience not available from competitors.
In the commercial front, we have brought the next evolution in A. O. Smith’s award winning Cyclone gas water
heaters, the MXi series. The MXi series delivers energy modulating technology previously available only to the
most expensive gas boilers.
We also recognize that more important than technology is you, our customers. We are listening and we are
continuously improving our services. We have a dedicated Customer Service Team ready to assist to ensure
your water heater works. We have established Preventive Maintenance Team that monitors and maintains
the long term quality and effectiveness of our products. We have introduced standardized toolkits that reduce
service turnaround times. To deliver satisfying projects, we have improved our project team structures and
standardized on processes. We are also rolling out a revamped structure for our provincial offices that focuses
on customer satisfaction.
We do not stop there. Every issue becomes an opportunity for improvement. We strive to provide better
customer experience, so you can experience water for better life.

Instant Water Heaters
Thermostatic Series
Thermostatic instant water heater series is the state-of-the-art in instant water heating. Unlike conventional instant heaters in the
market, in which you can only control input power, thermostatic instant heaters allow users to preselect their desired output water
temperature.
The thermostatic heater continuously senses inlet water temperature and computes how much energy to use so that you get your
shower at your desired temperature.

BlueWave Series
Shower or single-point heaters are designed for non-pressurized use (e.g. No valve controlling the water is located after the heater).
Shower heaters come with shower head and accessories.
Inline or multi-point heaters usually serve multiple showers or sinks. Because outlet valves controlling water are placed in one or more
locations further down from the heater by the hot water line, inline water heaters must be designed to withstand built-in pressure while
the valves are closed. Whether single point or multi-point, the modern instant electric heater only activates when water is flowing inside
the heater. This ensures longer life for the heater element.

Rated gas pressure
LP gas-fired tankless water
heaters are common in
Europe, China and increasingly
so in the USA. Using LPG
as energy source, they
have the advantages (and
disadvantages) of electric
instant water heaters, the most
common type of heater in the
Philippines. Compared to an
electric water heater, a gas-fired
water heater roughly halves
operating costs.

Expansion tanks
A.O. Smith Expansion Tank
Thermal expansion occurs when water is heated during non-use periods. The installation
of a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV), Check Valve or Back Flow Preventer “closes” the
water system, leaving water with no room for expansion. National Standard Plumbing code:
10.5.7 requires backflow prevention, to prevent backflow into the water main.
Thermal expansion in a closed plumbing system can be damaging, dangerous and costly.
Its effects include damage to water heater connections, gas water heater flue tubes, pumps
serving washers and dishwashers, leaking faucets, “weeping” of water through the water
heater T&P Relief Valve, and noisy water hammer in the pipes.
A properly sized Expansion Tank eliminates these problems, by giving water a place to go
when thermal expansion occurs. When a water heating cycle ends, or when any fixture is
opened within the system, the impact of thermal expansion is reduced, and water drains out
of the expansion tank back into the system.
• Interior epoxy coating is permanently bonded to the tank shell for ultimate protection on
the water side of the water heater expansion tank.
• Durable butyl diaphragm ensures long life.
• Positive lock retention system controls compression in the diaphragm connection,
eliminating air loss or water leaks in hot water expansion tank.

Heat Pump Water Heaters
Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) is a proven technology that uses the same mechanical
principles as refrigerators and air conditioners to generate hot water. Unlike conventional
electricity and fossil-fuel-fired water heaters, HPWH’s take heat from the surrounding air
and transfer it to the water in the tank.
The heat pump works by taking heat from the surrounding air and using it to heat the
low pressure liquid refrigerant in the heat pump’s evaporator, vaporizing the liquid. The
refrigerant then passes through the compressor, which raises the refrigerant pressure
and thus the temperature as well. The heated refrigerant gas passes through the heat
pump condenser, where it gives off its heat to the water and condenses back into the
liquid state. The liquid refrigerant now passes through an expansion valve where the
pressure is reduced and the cycle starts over.
Fireflux Heat Pump Water Heater
is a split-type heat pump system.
The decoupling of the heat pump
unit from the tank system allows
a greater flexibility in tank sizes,
backup system, and installation
options.
Heat pumps mainly consist of a compressor, fan, evaporator, and the heat exchanger.
The compressor requires electricity to compress the refrigerant and vaporize it, and the
fan requires a small amount of electricity to continually blow air across the evaporator coils
when the unit is operating. The only electricity cost is the operation of the compressor
and the fan in order to collect the free heat and pump it to the hot water.

Solar Water Heaters
Amici Solar Active
Solar Flat Plate Collector
Take advantage of the Philippine sun to get you hot water.
Unlike solar photovoltaic systems for electrical generation, solar
thermal systems have the high efficiency criteria to make them
viable solutions for renewable energy usage.
With Amici’s SolarActive water heaters, only the collector panels
stay on the roof. There’s greater flexibility in installation and
architectural design.

Pressurized Thermosiphon System
Thermosiphon systems do not depend on an external pump to
get water moving from collectors to tank. Instead, they depend
on the natural movement of heated water moving upwards to
get hot water moving.
We offer both roof-top and balcony-type solar collectors for
residential use. Our solar heaters are pressurized by design.
This means you get the same pressure for hot water as you get
on tap. This is unlike some of the cheaper gravity-type solar
heater design marketed here.

Note:
Table is based on the Hazen-Williams formula:
(h-0.002082L x (100/C)1.85 x (gpm1.85/d4.8655)
Where:
h = Feet of head
L = Length in feet
C = Friction factor from Hazen-Williams
(145 for plastic pipe)
gpm = Gallons per Minute
d = Nominal pipe size
