AUTHOR GUIDELINES FOR PERSPECTIVES Thank you for

AUTHOR GUIDELINES FOR PERSPECTIVES
Thank you for agreeing to submit a Perspective to the Journal of Pathology. The Journal aims
to bridge the gap between basic biomedical science and clinical medicine, by publishing
work that enhances our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of human
disease. Your Perspective should take these aims into account.
A Perspective should give an understanding of the relative importance of things, providing a
“sense of proportion” or a “point of view”. Ideally, it should offer a new interpretation of a
topic. Consequently, there might be a hint of the polemical in such a contribution. It may
also serve primarily to outline new hypotheses (in which case it will be titled Hypothesis).
Manuscript preparation
Our Author Guidelines are comprehensive and what follows here is an aide-memoire with
hyperlinks to the relevant sections of the main guidelines. If you have any questions, please
contact the editorial team at [email protected].
Your submission should include:
A Microsoft Word (or equivalent) file (NOT A PDF), written in English, double-spaced, with
page numbers, and using a standard font (e.g. 12-pt Arial, Helvetica or Times Roman).
The title page should contain:
• A succinct and unambiguous title
• A short running title (<75 characters including spaces)
• List of authors (using given and family name, but not qualifications)
• Full affiliations of all authors and contact details of the corresponding author(s)
• A conflict of interest statement
• A word count for the main text (typically 1500 words and not more than 2000)
The next page should have:
• An Abstract (not structured and preferably <200 words)
• Keywords (3 to 10)
The body of the text may be broken down with headings.
After the body of the text, provide the following sections:
• Acknowledgements including a statement defining funding sources
• Statement of author contributions
• Reference list in the correct format – an Endnote style is available here
• Table(s) as appropriate
• Concise but informative figure legends
Figures
You may wish to capture the essence of your Perspective using a diagrammatic Figure. This
must not be embedded into the document, but uploaded as a separate TIFF file. A concise
but informative Figure legend should be included in the main manuscript (see above).
Please consult our detailed requirements regarding figure size, file format and resolution, as
well as our policy on reproducing previously published images.
