Aston Graduate Careers Profile
Share your story…
I graduated from Aston University in 2008 with a 2.1, BSc (Hons) in Business and Management
degree. After a few years of working I decided I needed to gain some international work
experience and develop my qualifications further. With this goal in mind I decided to enrol on
the postgraduate business programme with the Mountbatten Institute. The programme takes
on graduates who are interested in expanding there international work experience whilst
working towards a postgraduate business qualification in New York. I am currently working
for UBS Investment Bank as a HR assistant for the equities division of the business.
The best thing about your current role is…
The best thing about my current role is the amount of opportunity that is available. New
Yorkers are very supportive of success. If you show enthusiasm and ambition opportunity will
come your way. I also like that I haven’t been treated like an intern. I am treated like any
other member of team who has real responsibility and adds value to the business.
Most valuable skills…
You need strong communicational skills to make it in this city. The key to success in New York
is the ability to network, network and network. It is a tough city to survive in however the
environment makes you strong. It’s definitely a challenge at times both personally and
professionally so a determined attitude definitely helps.
My golden nugget of advice would be…
The past few months have allowed me to travel, meet new people and work towards a
qualification in New York!!! I would highly recommend this programme; just go for it only
positive things can come out of the experience. However you should also be prepared to work
hard and prove yourself in your placement.
Give us a quote!
“Be open to opportunity” don’t pigeon hole yourself to one industry, if you are open to many,
greater opportunities will present themselves.
This experience will create a life time of memories so bring a camera.
