Invest in SEAPORTS OF İZMİR İzmir has a significant potential regarding national and international maritime transportation. Alsancak, Aliağa-Nemrut, Dikili and Çeşme seaports are important points in maritime transport. Çandarlı Seaport which is under construction that will be one of the ten biggest seaports of the world will also be one of the connection points that will significantly increase the potential of Izmir. Alsancak Seaport Alsancak Seaport is the biggest seaport of Aegean Region in regards to its annual ship acceptance capacity of 3,588 ships. In addition to being the import portal of Central Anatolia Region and Aegean Region, it is also an important trading port between European, Middle Eastern and Asian countries with its railway and highway connections. In year 2011, approximately 70% of loadings and 77% of container traffic realised at seaports operated by TCDD was made by Alsancak Seaport. Coordinates: The seaport operated by T.R. General Directorate of State Railways (Devlet Demiryolları İsletmesi Genel Müdürlüğü – TCDD) is located at the coordinates of 38° 25’ 00” N, 27° 04’ 30” E. Marine Vehicles: A 90-tonnes capacity floating crane and 1 mooring (warp) boat exist in the port. As the foremost export seaport of Turkey in container handling, İzmir Seaport is an important trade port between, European, Middle East and Asian countries with its railroad and highway connections, along with being the import gate of Central Anatolia and Aegean Regions of Turkey. • Considering its location allowing easy access to all touristic assets of Aegean Region and close proximity of 25 km to Adnan Menderes Airport, the importance of the port for passenger services may also be emphasised. • The seaport has a wide agricultural and industrial hinterland. Aside from being the agriculture and industry port of Aegean Region, Izmir also plays a crucial role regarding the export activities of the country. All types of cargo are serviced in the port and port expansion works are underway. The seaport is connected to the railway and highway networks. • X 1.000 Handling Equipments: Container handling operations in the terminal are realised by 5 40-tonnes gantry cranes, 19 rubber-wheeled transtainers with 40-tonnes capacity, 20 full container forklifts with 25-42-tonnes capacity and 20 empty container forklifts with 8-10-tonnes capacity. In addition to these, there are 7 dock cranes with 3-25-tonnes capacity, 12 mobile cranes with 5-25-tonnes capacity, and 20 short-mast forklifts. Also the terminal has suitable reefer panels for reefer containers. The daily capacity of the container washing plant is 20 TEU. Third Person Handling Equipments: 2 MHC with 100-tonnes capacity. Bulk Cargo Facility: In the port that has two concrete silos with a total capacity of 70,000 tonnes belonging to TMO, there is also a conveyor system connected to the dock. Dominantly services for cargo and cruise passenger ships are provided in Alsancak Seaport. Annually, 500,000 passengers, 1 million TEU container and 10 million tonnes cargo are handled. Providing employment for 800 people, the Seaport annual average turnover has been indicated to be 100 million US dollars. Passenger Services: Due to the close proximity of Izmir to the historical and touristic sites in Aegean Region, the port passenger terminal also has a significant traffic. New Investments and Privatisation Practices: A total investment amount of 650 million US dollars is estimated to be made for Alsancak Seaport regarding expansion of both the cruise port and the container port. Privatisation practices for the seaport are also in progress. Pilotage/Towage: It is mandatory for ships to get pilotage while entering and exiting the port. Pilotage and Towage services are provided 24 hours a day by TDI (Türkiye Denizcilik İşletmeleri A.Ş.). 2 Aliağa-Nemrut Seaports Port including Tüpraş with over 8 billion TL sales volume and Petkim with over 2 billion sales volume. Annually commercial transaction at a total value of approximately 15 billion dollars is realised in the docks and ports in Aliağa. As of year 2011, an approximate ship traffic of 5000 was achieved in the area where 39 million tonnes handling was made. The industry district of İzmir, Aliağa, is surrounded by Manisa at the east, Bergama at the north, Menemen at the south and Foça at the southwest. İzmir- Çanakkale motorway passes through the city, and it takes 45 minutes from the district to İzmir Centrum with this double two-way highway. Ege Gübre, BATICIM, İzmir Demir Çelik, Ege Çelik, HABAS, TCE EGE, Nemport, Petkim, Tüpraş, Petrol Ofisi, Ege Gaz, Total Gaz ports and docks in Nemrut and Aliağa have a significant contribution to economy. The only ship dismantling facility of Turkey is located in Aliağa. 21 enterprises with ship dismantling licence are situated on 1300 metres coastline and 600,000 m2 area. When the sector reaches full capacity 900,000 tonnes/year production, 1800 workers get employment and together with the subindustry this value reaches 8000 workers. Recycling amount estimated as of end of year 2012 is around 750,000-800,000 tonnes, while it is estimated that 1,000,000 tonnes of ship recycling is going to occur as of year 2015. The export made via these ports and docks occurred to be approximately 7 billion dollars in year 2010, and 10 billion dollars in year 2011. The construction of the North Aegean Çandarli Port increases the importance of the region even further.
