Conditions Of Play
• In a 4 B.B.B. each player shall play a single stableford in
conjunction and the computer will calculate the team score
based on the time sheet booking (ie Player 1 & 2 , Player 3 & 4)
• Unfinancial Members are not eligible for competition or social
play.
• Competition players are required to report to the starter at
least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled starting time to avoid
relegation of their tee time to the end of the field.
• Any player wanting to cancel must notify the Pro Shop as
early as possible.
• Players are to be on the Tee ready to play at their allocated time.
Rule 6.3
Penalty: Loss of the first hole in Match Play, or two strokes
at the first hole in Stroke Play. Repetitiveness may warrant
disqualification.
• All cards must be returned on completion of play directly after
the round (ie not after putting clubs away in the car etc).
Rule 6.6.b
Cards not returned will render the players liable to rehandicapping.
• Entry Fees must be paid prior to players teeing off.
Penalty: Disqualification.
• All Fixture Book events are open to AMATEURS ONLY. These
players must be financial members of a golf club and have an
official A.G.U., W.G.A. or City Golf Club Handicap, with the
exception of the following:
a. Competitions, which the sponsors have allowed for NonGolfers to participate,
b. The City Golf Club Professional and his Trainees at the
time, and Professional Golfers who as amateurs were
members of The City Golf Club Inc. All of the above may
play in any event including 4Ball, Foursomes, Ambrose
and Novelty events, but as Professionals, are ineligible to
8
Conditions Of Play Cont.
claim any prize, including Nearest The Pins, Approaches
and Long Drives. These players are not to be charged any
Green Fee or Competition Fee.
If the Professional/Trainee chooses to place his/her name
on the time sheet in one of the above mentioned events,
this will render, if the case may be, the whole team
ineligible to claim any prize, The above players will also
remove his/her name from the time sheet if it is depriving
a member of a game.
Visiting Professionals or Trainee Professionals, other than
the above mentioned, may play on the course, but not in
any amateur competitions. These players are not to be
charged any Green Fee or Competition Fee.
• All Sunday events will be classed as Open Events with the
exception of Championship events, Qualifying rounds of
Championships events, Honour Board Qualifying events or
unless otherwise stated.
• Any complaints shall be lodged in writing to the Match
Committee to settle any doubtful points before signing and
returning the scorecard. Reference to rules that may have
been breached should be noted i.e.: 10-1a/2
• All fixture book events are open to financial Members of a
Reciprocal Club with the exception of Club Championships,
Honour Board Events and Closed Events. Play is permitted in
Monthly Medals but the player will not be eligible to win any
prize with the exception of Nearest the Pins and approaches.
• Saturday events are open to the following financial players:
a. Seven day Playing, Country, and Junior Members of The
City Golf Club,
b. Seven day Playing, Country and Junior Members of a
Reciprocal Club,
c. A Bona Fide visitor - excluding Championships Events,
Qualifying Rounds of Championship Events, closed
Honour Board Events or unless otherwise stated. Visiting
players who compete in the before mentioned events will
9
Conditions Of Play Cont.
be eligible for the daily trophy but will not be able to
qualify for any feature event.
Midweek Members are not permitted to play in any event
that is held on a Saturday or Sunday.
• Bona Fide visitors will be required to pay the appropriate
Visitor Competition Fee. A Bona Fide visitor is a person who
resides over 100 km away.
• Ties in any event, unless otherwise stated, will be decided by
the countback system.
• Play will not be permitted in more than four players, with
the exception of Foursomes Championships, unless with the
express permission of the Starter, and then in no more than
five. These players must play at the end of the field.
Some people
slow down the game by just
taking too long to start their swings and hit the shot. This
tendency not only slows things down but can actually harm your
game as it
hinders your ability
to make free natural swings.
By standing
over the ball for too long
you actually increase the possibility of
excessive muscle tension.
The
great players almost always play their
shots with
little delay after addressing the ball,
as delay is a sign of being negative, apart from
being too slow.
10
Championships
• CLOSED EVENTS:
All City Golf Club Championships Events are open to
Financial Full Playing Members (Ordinary Members),
Honorary Life Members, Subscribing Life Members and
Junior Members.
No visitors will be allowed to play in these events or Honour
Board Events with the exception of Open Events.
• No player in any one event may win more than one trophy
or event (Excludes Ladies Championships and Ladies
Foursomes)
eg: The winner of the Best Gross in a foursomes event
cannot win the Best Nett.
• If a Senior (over 50 years) or a Junior (under 18 years)
wins a Grade Championship then he wins that title with
the Senior or Junior title going to the next best score in that
particular category.
• Players are permitted to use a Motorised Cart in Honour
Board events including Club Championships.
• STROKE PLAY: (Includes Men’s & Mixed Foursomes)
Ties will be decided by way of a Hole by Hole Sudden
Death Play-off on the same day at the discretion of the match
committee.
There will be a seeded draw for the top 8 players in the
Club Championships for each grade in the final round.
• FOURSOMES:
The Foursomes Championships will be played over 36
Holes. Players are to alternate Tee shots with the players
electing who is to tee off from the 1st hole in the 1st 18
holes. The order of play is to be reversed for the 2nd 18
holes i.e.: If player ‘A’ teed off from the 1st hole in the
1st round, player ‘B’ will tee off on the 1st hole in the
2nd round. Players are to play off half of their combined
handicaps, fractions to count.
11
Championships Cont.
• MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS:
The Match Play Championships will be conducted by way
of individual nomination by players in each grade with
rounds to be played by the dates set down by the Match
Committee.
Play-off rounds will be conducted over 18 holes with the
final being held over 36 holes. Players will play off a scratch
handicap in all rounds. The player qualifying in the higher
position shall be the first to tee off. Ties in the play-off round
will be decided by a “Sudden Death” play-off on the same
day.
• HANDICAP MATCH PLAY:
All handicap match players will use the Match Play Index.
The lowest marker in the group will play off a scratch
handicap with the other players playing off a handicap
equal to the difference of the two handicaps ie: if player ‘A’
has a handicap of 10 and player ‘B’ has a handicap of 15,
player ‘A’ will play off scratch and player ‘B’ off a handicap
of 5. Positions will be decided by a countback. All play is
from the 1st Tee.
• FOURBALL MATCH PLAY
In any 4 B.B.B. Handicap Match Play including Mixed
events, the par of the hole is irrelevant and does not come
into consideration, the lower nett score will be declared the
winner of the hole, if both nett scores are equal, the hole is
to be halved.
Rules 2.1 & 30. Positions will be decided by a countback
For all match play events, players must play from the 1st tee.
12
Countback System
For 18 hole events the best score for the last 9 holes shall
be used; if there is still a tie the last 6 holes, or if still tied
the last 3 holes. If a tie still persists then hole by hole
from the 18th. In handicap events the relevant handicap
or fraction thereof shall be applied. In all cases, the last
holes are as per the scorecard, not necessarily as played.
Examples:
Player 1 has a total of 39 points with 2 points on the last
hole and 23 points on the back 9.
Player 2 has a total of 39 points with 3 points on the last
hole and 17 points on the back 9.
Player 1 wins because he/she had the highest stableford
score on the back 9.
(Note: handicap has already been considered in the stableford
scoring system).
Player 1 with a handicap of 25, had a net 70 with a
gross score of 45 on the back 9.
Player 2 with a handicap of 30, had a net 70 with a
gross score of 47 on the back 9.
Player 1 net score on the back 9 is 32.5 (45-12.5) and
player 2 net score on the back 9 is 32 (47-15), so player
2 wins the count-back.
(Note: it is assumed that the indexes on the card allows the handicaps to
be halved for each nine holes)!
For events of 36, 54, or 72 holes, the final 18 holes shall
be the score used to determine the winner. If scores are
still tied then proceed as per an 18-hole event.
For 9-hole competitions a countback will be decided by
using the last 6 holes, if still tied then the last 3 holes, if a
tie still exists then hole by hole starting from the 9th hole
played.
