These players must play at the end of the field. Some people slow down the game by just taking too long to start their swings and hit the shot. This tendency not only slows things down but can actually harm your game as it hinders your ability to make free natural swings. By standing over the ball for too long you actually increase the possibility of excessive muscle tension. The great players almost always play their shots with little delay after addressing the ball, as delay is a sign of being negative, apart from being too slow. 10 Championships • CLOSED EVENTS: All City Golf Club Championships Events are open to Financial Full Playing Members (Ordinary Members), Honorary Life Members, Subscribing Life Members and Junior Members. No visitors will be allowed to play in these events or Honour Board Events with the exception of Open Events. • No player in any one event may win more than one trophy or event (Excludes Ladies Championships and Ladies Foursomes) eg: The winner of the Best Gross in a foursomes event cannot win the Best Nett. • If a Senior (over 50 years) or a Junior (under 18 years) wins a Grade Championship then he wins that title with the Senior or Junior title going to the next best score in that particular category. • Players are permitted to use a Motorised Cart in Honour Board events including Club Championships. • STROKE PLAY: (Includes Men’s & Mixed Foursomes) Ties will be decided by way of a Hole by Hole Sudden Death Play-off on the same day at the discretion of the match committee. There will be a seeded draw for the top 8 players in the Club Championships for each grade in the final round. • FOURSOMES: The Foursomes Championships will be played over 36 Holes. Players are to alternate Tee shots with the players electing who is to tee off from the 1st hole in the 1st 18 holes. The order of play is to be reversed for the 2nd 18 holes i.e.: If player ‘A’ teed off from the 1st hole in the 1st round, player ‘B’ will tee off on the 1st hole in the 2nd round. Players are to play off half of their combined handicaps, fractions to count. 11 Championships Cont. • MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Match Play Championships will be conducted by way of individual nomination by players in each grade with rounds to be played by the dates set down by the Match Committee. Play-off rounds will be conducted over 18 holes with the final being held over 36 holes. Players will play off a scratch handicap in all rounds. The player qualifying in the higher position shall be the first to tee off. Ties in the play-off round will be decided by a “Sudden Death” play-off on the same day. • HANDICAP MATCH PLAY: All handicap match players will use the Match Play Index. The lowest marker in the group will play off a scratch handicap with the other players playing off a handicap equal to the difference of the two handicaps ie: if player ‘A’ has a handicap of 10 and player ‘B’ has a handicap of 15, player ‘A’ will play off scratch and player ‘B’ off a handicap of 5. Positions will be decided by a countback. All play is from the 1st Tee. • FOURBALL MATCH PLAY In any 4 B.B.B. Handicap Match Play including Mixed events, the par of the hole is irrelevant and does not come into consideration, the lower nett score will be declared the winner of the hole, if both nett scores are equal, the hole is to be halved. Rules 2.1 & 30. Positions will be decided by a countback For all match play events, players must play from the 1st tee. 12 Countback System For 18 hole events the best score for the last 9 holes shall be used; if there is still a tie the last 6 holes, or if still tied the last 3 holes. If a tie still persists then hole by hole from the 18th. In handicap events the relevant handicap or fraction thereof shall be applied. In all cases, the last holes are as per the scorecard, not necessarily as played. Examples: Player 1 has a total of 39 points with 2 points on the last hole and 23 points on the back 9. Player 2 has a total of 39 points with 3 points on the last hole and 17 points on the back 9. Player 1 wins because he/she had the highest stableford score on the back 9. (Note: handicap has already been considered in the stableford scoring system). Player 1 with a handicap of 25, had a net 70 with a gross score of 45 on the back 9. Player 2 with a handicap of 30, had a net 70 with a gross score of 47 on the back 9. Player 1 net score on the back 9 is 32.5 (45-12.5) and player 2 net score on the back 9 is 32 (47-15), so player 2 wins the count-back. (Note: it is assumed that the indexes on the card allows the handicaps to be halved for each nine holes)! For events of 36, 54, or 72 holes, the final 18 holes shall be the score used to determine the winner. If scores are still tied then proceed as per an 18-hole event. For 9-hole competitions a countback will be decided by using the last 6 holes, if still tied then the last 3 holes, if a tie still exists then hole by hole starting from the 9th hole played. 13 Grades for Club & Championship Events Stroke Play ‘A’ Grade (0-10) ‘B’ Grade (11-19) ‘C’ Grade (20-36) Match Play ‘A’ Grade To be determined ‘B ’Grade To be determined ‘C’ Grade To be determined These Fixtures and conditions are subject to change at the discretion of the Match Committee without notice.
