This collection supports the work of the Catholic Communications Network in providing facilities and training for those working in the apostolate of the mass media. RECENT COLLECTIONS: The Lent Fast Day Collection, to assist poor communities in Africa and elsewhere, has totalled £1,004.46. CAFOD thanks all who contributed to this collection. “Because of your donations, we are building wells in Kenya; supporting small businesses in Zambia; training people in Niger on drought resistant crops to keep the Harvest bountiful, amongst many other life-changing projects you are making possible.” The East Africa Crisis Appeal Collection amounted to £1,048.96. This Appeal was launched last month by the Disasters Emergency Committee (of which CAFOD is a member) to provide urgent supplies to the 16 million people facing severe hunger in South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. More than 800,000 children under five are severely malnourished. The Holy Places Collection, taken on Good Friday, totalled £574.16. This Collection will help the Franciscans in the Holy Land in their work of restoring the traditional sites of Jesus’s birth and resurrection, among other things. Red Boxes: The March collection from 8 boxes yielded £124.24. The next collection will be made in September. If you would like a Red Box, Mike (725448) can let you have one. Your donations go towards sending missionaries and training catechists to serve new Catholic communities overseas. Parish Pastoral Council Meeting – Fr Dominic’s last Parish Pastoral Council meeting will be held on Friday 12th May at 2.30pm in the Don Bosco Room. This is always an ‘Open’ Meeting. The Flying Nun On Saturday 20th May, Sr. Clare Bernadette from the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Littlehampton will take part in a sponsored skydive in aid of Worthing Churches Homeless Projects. One of WCHP’s projects is a breakfast club in Littlehampton, offering a hot meal to those who are homeless or insecurely housed. These are open Meetings and any Parishioner may attend. They take place in the Don Bosco Room in our Hall at 2.30pm. Aylesford Priory. There will be a visit to Aylesford Priory on Thursday, 6 July. The coach will leave St Catherine’s, Littlehampton at 8.15am and return at approx. 7.00pm. A payment of £15 will be collected on the coach; it will be necessary to bring a packed lunch. At the Priory there will be Mass before lunch and Benediction at 4pm. There will also be the opportunity for the Sacrament of Penance. Reformation 500: Defending our differences through love, understanding and respect. Join Pastor Rory McClure and Father Tony Milner (of Dorking and Wonersh) as they review the Reformation on its 500th anniversary and seek areas where we can work together and learn from each other. General Election Thursday 8th June Paul Sanderson MBE has written to us and other Littlehampton churches (see his email in the porch) to let us know that he will be standing as an Independent Candidate in the forthcoming General Election for the Bognor Regis and Littlehampton constituency, and that he is seeking our support.
