Supporting your favorite Girl Scout through the Girl Scout Cookie Program will help her learn five key skills that she will use throughout her life: What do the cookies support? All of the proceeds—every penny—from the Girl Scout Cookie Program remain in Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia (GSCV). This revenue is used to benefit girls, some of it directly by remaining in the Girl Scout troop treasury and some of it indirectly by subsidizing the cost of providing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls in our area. Important dates Proceeds of the Cookie Program help Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia: • Recruit and train adult volunteers • Provide financial assistance to make Girl Scouting available for all girls • Improve and maintain our camps • Keep event/camp fees for all members to a minimum • Provide special family events January 3 Safety first! Your guidance and support of the Cookie Program is instrumental to your Girl Scout’s success. Thank you for your support. We are confident you will find the experience to be both enjoyable and rewarding. Order taking begins (in person and online) February 15 Cookie booths begin • It is strongly recommended that all children be accompanied by someone age 18 or older when selling or delivering product outside of their home. March 27 Last day to sell cookies with credit toward recognitions • Remind your Girl Scout to wear her Girl Scout uniform, pin, or something to identify her as a Girl Scout. February 15-20 Cookie delivery to troops • Girl Scouts should not enter another person’s home. All order taking and cookie deliveries should be made at the door. The price of cookies Important Reminder: The price of cookies is $4.00 per package, including the new 100th anniversary S’mores cookie. Gluten Free Trios are $5.00 per package. • Girls do not give their own phone number, address, or last name to customers. • Always sell during daylight and with another person. • Girls should not carry large sums of money. All money needs to be turned in by a responsible adult. How you can help your Girl Scout? • Attend the troop cookie meeting. • Sign and return the parent consent form before taking orders (available from your troop leader or at comgirlscouts.org) • Make sure your Girl Scout is honest and fair and waits until January 3 to begin taking orders. • The Gluten Free Trio is a rolled oats, peanut butter, and chocolate chip cookie. • Set goals with your Girl Scout and encourage her as she tracks her progress. • The Gluten Free Trio is not listed on the order card. • Support her progress in the Cookie Program. Take her to your workplace, assist with phone orders, volunteer at the troop’s cookie booth, and help deliver cookies. Gluten Free Trio Cookies • Ask your troop leader about ordering Trios while supplies last. •Trios do count toward girl recognitions and the troop will earn proceeds. • Gluten Free Trios cost $5 per package. Goal setting It is proven that girls will achieve a higer level of success when they set a goal and can tell their customers what they are hoping to use their proceeds for. Goal setting is an important life skill. Here’s how you can help your Girl Scout: • Discuss which types of recognitions she would like to earn (recognitions listed on the card). • Make sure she knows what her troop will do with their earnings and that she can explain it to customers. 2 • Help her to set not only sales goals but personal goals such as improving speaking skills or learning money management. How girls participate Cookie Share Help your daughter reach her goals by combining order taking and cookie booths. With our council-wide Cookie Share, Girl Scouts are able to make a difference in our community by thanking our local service men and women through our partnership with the Central Virginia USO. • Customers write the number of packages they would like to donate in the Cookie Share column on the order card and pay for the cookies at that time. Order Taking—Beginning January 3 To get started, girls decide on a goal and use order cards to begin taking cookie orders door-to-door. The total cookie order will be shared with the troop leader. Encourage your Girl Scout to add to the final cookie number as customers will ask to buy more cookies! Remember cookies cannot be returned. Cookie Booths—Beginning February 15 It is proven that customers will purchase more when the cookies are in-hand. Make sure to have additional packages of cookies available as you deliver pre-ordered cookies and visit family and friends. If you need additional cookies after February 15, talk to your troop leader. Additional cookies are available through the end of March. Your Girl Scout will earn credit toward recognitions on all cookies sold through March 27. This includes the initial order, additional packages, and a portion of cookie booth sales. • Customers do not choose the variety of cookie to be donated. • GSCV delivers the cookies to the USO. • Girls receive credit toward recognitions and the troop earns proceeds on all Cookie Share sales. • Girls who sell 12 or more packages to donate qualify for a special patch! Using online cookie technology Help your Girl Scout hone her technology skills for the future by using online cookie platforms to reach out to family and friends. How? Just go to abcsmartcookies.com and click on the Cookie Command Center (COCO) button. You will find a page for girls that can help them contact people online, set goals, and more. There is also a page available for parents! What COCO can do: • COCOdirect: Lets girls send ecards to family and friends out of town for them to pay online (with a shipping charge) and have the cookie delivered. • COCOmobile: Lets parents download an app that can be used as a digital order card (available for all smart phones). What are troop proceeds and how are they calculated? Troop proceeds represent the money that is earned and deposited directly into the troop treasury. Troops earn proceeds on the packages sold based on the selling average of the girls participating in the sale. The per-girl average is determined by taking the total number of packages sold by the troop and dividing by the number of girls participating in the Cookie Program. It is important to remember that troop proceeds belong to the Girl Scout troop and not to the individual members of the troop. Decisions about spending troop proceeds need to reflect the wishes and interests of all the girls. Cookie Booths Your Girl Scout can strengthen her people skills and decision making by running a cookie booth at an area business. Cookie booths are a fun way for troops to get together and really put some of their financial literacy skills to the test. Individual girls should not set up cookie booths on their own. Talk to your troop leader about cookie booth procedures. 3 Message for Girls: Recognitions As a girl on a mission, we’re here to support you and recognize all your hard work. Our council has put together some pretty cool rewards and recognitions to inspire you to meet your goals and reach for the stars. A full line up of recognitions has been included inside your order card. Girls earn recognitions based on the number of packages they sell through March 27. Recognitions are cumulative. In honor of this incredible milestone, we’re excited to introduce to you our NEW Girl Scout S’mores cookie! Camping has been a time honored tradition in Girl Scouts since day one. In fact, the first recorded S’mores recipe appeared in “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts,” published in 1927. We’ve updated this classic campfire snack to reflect the modern sensibility of today’s Girl Scouts. We took a crispy graham cookie and double-dipped it with a yummy creme icing and a scrumptious chocolatey coating. You get all the flavor of this fireside favorite without all the sticky mess! The Girl Scout S’mores cookie captures this spirit of togetherness and adventure and is topped off with a comforting taste of home. Warm and inviting - just like the Girl Scouts! 4 Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia 4900 Augusta Avenue Suite 200 Richmond, VA 23230 804-746-0590 www.comgirlscouts.org [email protected]
