Grade 11 Religion Christian Service Reflection Topics – Reflection #1 – DUE: _______________________ Sometimes, in the midst of our service, it’s hard “to see the forest for the trees” – in other words, it’s hard to see how our small role is making any kind of difference to the larger issues of social injustice. St. B’s logo is “Small enough to care; big enough to make a difference.” 1. In a well-developed paragraph (min. 8 sentences), explain towards what larger social justice issues your seemingly small contribution, together with many other small contributions, is helping to make a difference. Remember to provide properly explained examples to support your response. 2. In a well-developed paragraph (min. 8 sentences), describe how your unique gifts and talents are being utilized at your service placement. Please refer to your result of the Myers-Briggs questionnaire, personal inventories, and/or any of the Gifts of the Holy Spirits to answer this question, along with properly explained examples to support your response. Reflection #2 – DUE: _______________________ Christian Service work is often challenging: physically, mentally, and emotionally. It can also be very rewarding. 1. In a well-developed paragraph (min. 8 sentences), describe one high point or positive experience that you’ve had so far at your placement. Be sure to mention specific details about the situation, why it was positive, and how you felt. 2. In a well-developed paragraph (min. 8 sentences), describe one low point, or challenging experience you’ve had so far at your placement. Be sure to mention specific details about the situation, why it was a low point, and how you felt. If you cannot provide a low point, describe a second high point. Reflection #3 – DUE: _______________________ 1. In a well-developed paragraph (min. 8 sentences), discuss why it is so important to be engaged in DIRECT service? What does this quote mean to you: “When the heart is touched by direct experience, the mind may be challenged to change.” Describe how you have grown (spiritually, personally, socially) in this project. Remember to provide properly explained examples to support your response. 2. In a well-developed paragraph (min. 8 sentences) evaluate your overall performance at your placement(s). Discuss: your overall attitude, your ability to communicate with others, and your levels of initiative and responsibility. Remember to provide properly explained examples to support your response. 3. In at least 4 sentences, explain what recommendations you would suggest to ensure that the Christian Service project is a meaningful experience for students. Provide at least one good recommendation with examples of how it will improve the project. Grade 11 Religion How are Reflections evaluated? Christian Service reflections are similar to course content reflections, but have the added expectation that the student is to reflect on their service experiences in terms of living out their faith lives. The four criteria of Christian Service reflections are: a) b) c) d) Connections to course content Personal experiences, and where they encountered Christ and/or lived out their faith Seeing the world through the eyes of another Personal Growth All reflections must be a minimum of 8 sentences per response, and provide adequate explanations with specific examples.
