There are many excellent resources, including on the web, on how to paper piece. Make 80 copies of the fan template. 1 The fans in the Main block are paper pieced. Make 80 copies of the fan template. The numbers on the pattern are the piecing order. Paper piece the fan using the 640–2½"x 5" rectangles. Use a mix of fabrics in each fan. Align edges of fan and background. Use your appliqué method of choice to appliqué the top of the fan to the Main block. Make 80. Blocks should measure 8½"x 8½". Blocks combine to make a wrapped candy. 4 Join the 8–1½"x WOF inner border strips end to end. Before you add each border, measure across the center of the quilt for the best measurement for the length of each border. Add the 1½" inner borders, sides first then top and bottom.
