Recent ONS work produced a figure of 1.5% of the population. However, other surveys suggest higher rates. For this reason a range of rates are used based on current population data. Key Messages Age and Sex A more markedly aging population…. the population pyramid for the district shows how, proportionately, its population is over-represented in the older age groups; 1 in 4 residents in the district are over the age of 65. However, pockets of Stratford on Avon experience higher numbers of pre-school children, particularly in areas of new house building. As with elsewhere in the county, women account for a higher proportion of those aged 65+ Disability and Health Levels of 'good' health and disability are in line with county average.....In Stratford on Avon, 83% of residents described their health as 'good' or 'very good' - in line with county and national trends. Similarly, levels of disability, as measured through the census, are very slightly lower than those experienced countywide and nationally but essentially in line with the average for Warwickshire. Ethnicity, Country of birth, language and religion Currently less diverse than elsewhere in the county….in Stratford on Avon the 'White British' ethnic group accounted for 93.6% of the population in 2011. The district's next largest ethnic groups is 'Other White' at 2.9% of residents followed by 'White Irish' who make up 0.7% of the populaiton and the 'Indian' community at 0.5% . Together they account for almost 5000 residents. In Stratford on Avon, 6.2% of the population are recorded as being born outside of the UK - an increase on the figure of 4.6% in 2001. This rate is below county and national levels. The most prevelent non-UK country of birth in the district is Poland followed by Ireland. After English, the second main language spoken by residents is Polish. Almost 300 residents record Chinese as their main language. Accross the district, 459 residents are recorded as not being able to speak English well or at all. Around 70% of residents identified themselves as 'Christian'. After this, the largest religious groups is Buddist at 0.3% followed by Muslim at 0.2% . Being part of an ethnic or religious group in an area where there is little diversity may prestent its own challenges in terms of inclusion, access to services and participation in community life generally.
