Corrosive, Causes burns
Risk Phrases
R35 - Causes severe burns
Safety Phrases
S2 - Keep out of reach of children
S24/25 - Avoid contact with skin and eyes
S26 - In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with
plenty of water and seek medical attention.
S37/39 - Wear suitable gloves and eye/face protection.
4.FIRST AID MEASURES
Eye Contact
Immediately flood with copious amounts of water holding the
eye open if necessary.
Obtain medical attention.
Skin Contact
Immediately wash with water, preferably under a shower,
removing contaminated clothing as washing proceeds.
Obtain medical attention if irritation persists or if blistering
occurs.
Contaminated clothing should be washed before re-use.
Inhalation
Remove from exposure. Keep warm and at rest. If there is
respiratory distress, give oxygen. If respiration stops or shows
signs of failing apply artificial respiration.
Obtain medical attention urgently.
Ingestion
Wash out mouth with water; give plenty of water or milk to
drink.
Obtain medical attention.
Do not induce vomiting.
Treatment may be needed for pain and shock.

Note for Doctors
Harmful by ingestion, inhalation, skin and eye contact.
Local corrosive effects predominate.
No known systemic effects.
No specific antidotal treatment, symptomatic support required.
No known delayed effects after single exposure apart from
consequence of local tissue damage.

5.FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Not combustible. Use media suitable for surrounding fire
conditions.
Extinguishing Media
Will not explode, solid residues formed by evaporation in a fire
is partially combustible and water, C02, foam and dry powder
may be used. Residues will emit toxic fumes (Nitrogen Oxides)
if burnt or thermally decomposed in a fire. Cool containers with
water spray if exposed to fire or heat.
Wear S.C.B.A. & protective clothing.
6.ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Personnel Precautions
Wear full protective equipment.
See Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Environmental Precautions
If spillage contamination of water courses, drains or vegetation
inform relevant authorities.
7. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES CONT...
Methods for Cleaning Up
Large spillages - prevent product from reaching drains etc...
Contain spillage using earth or sand and pump into an
emergency tank. Dispose of, if necessary using licensed
waste disposal contractors. Wash down area with water.
Collect and treat all water used in the clean up.

12.TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Effect of Substance
- On Eyes
Contact with eyes may result severe burns with permanent
damage possible.
- On Skin
Cause Severe burns, even on short duration contact.
- By Skin Absorption
No systemic effects by any route of exposure.
- By Ingestion
Severe irritation and corrosion of the mouth, throat and
digestive tract. Large amounts may cause hypo-calcemic
tetany, with spontaneous recovery.
- When Inhaled (acute effect)
Much above the hygiene standards is likely to cause irritation
of the nose, throat and respiratory tract.
13.ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Sodium Hydroxide, due to its high chemical reactivity is likely to chemically degrade to a more
environmentally benign neutralised product.
Discharge of large quantities can cause long term effect for the aquatic environment. High pH
value is toxic to aquatic organisms.
