1st Middle East Conference on Catastrophe Insurance
26-27 January 2015, Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates Hotel, UAE
T
he Middle East region is becoming increasingly vulnerable
to natural hazards due to rapid urbanization, population
growth and economic development compounded by climate
change.
A World Bank study reported that the average number
of natural disasters in the Middle East has tripled in the
past 30 years and have cost their economies about US$20
billion with floods being the most recurrent hazard in the
region, followed by earthquakes. Lives and livelihoods are
seriously affected. There are also droughts with significant
water shortages, economic losses, and adverse social
consequences. And insured losses are increasing.
With climate change and the changing risk terrain,
demand for catastrophe covers is increasing in the Middle
East. Can the insurance industry take the lead to help
companies manage the risk exposures effectively? Is there a
science to measure these risk exposures accurately?
Middle East Insurance Review is hosting this 1st Middle
East Conference on Catastrophe Insurance to help
insurance companies better understand the CAT exposures
in the region and be prepared to meet the challenges of
the day while developing CAT covers as a new business area
of relevance. The two-day Conference will bring together
industry leaders and CAT experts to share their knowledge
on how companies must adapt and respond to the new
standards for CAT risk management as well as efficient risk
coping strategies to meet the ever-increasing new risks
horizon and demands for CAT covers. This Conference
is a MUST ATTEND for CAT underwriters, reinsurers, CAT
