ONE-DAY SEMINARS
RETHINKING SUSTAINABILITY
Presented by Dr. Alan Pue, president, The Barnabas Group, Inc.
Workshop 1: Rethinking Sustainability: The Non-Negotiables
As we begin this discussion on sustainability we must first ask ourselves: Are there any
issues or ideas that we simply cannot ignore; issues that, left unaddressed, can derail
even the best budgeting efforts? The answer is a resounding yes! In this workshop we will
identify and explore those non-negotiables.
Workshop 2: Rethinking Sustainability: The Foundational Principles
Like the foolish man who built his house on the sand, our budgeting efforts are likely to
collapse under pressure unless we build on a solid foundation. This workshop will explore
and address core foundational principles that must inform and anchor all of our
budgeting efforts.
Workshop 3: Rethinking Sustainability: Building a Better Budget
With the right foundation in place it is now time to build. We’ll address the architectural
flaws that often lead to a faulty construction process when it comes to building a sound
budget and offer a better design for developing your budget.
Workshop 4: Rethinking Sustainability: Linking Strategic Planning
and Strategic Budgeting
One common characteristic of successful schools is their ability to live in the present while
planning for their future. That isn’t easy, especially when it comes to budgeting. As a result
school leaders often find themselves so focused on current operational realities that they
can’t look at the horizon and ask: “What must we do if we hope to become the school we
want?” This workshop is designed to help you bridge that gap.
Workshop 5: Rethinking Sustainability: Somebody’s Got to Pay
No quality school funds its mission from tuition revenue alone. Nor should you. This
workshop explores principles and practices that can help you build the partnerships
necessary to have a thriving, sustainable school.
