Purpose of Cross-Cultural Services

Plan. The purpose of the plan is to promote greater diversity and cross-cultural
citizenship through curricula, co/extracurricular experiences, promotion of crosscultural understanding among the Alvernia Community, and campus programming.
The purpose of campus programming is to promote awareness, acknowledgement,
and acceptance of different cultures in order to create pathways of celebration,
appreciation and embracement of all people.
Hispanic Heritage Month Sept 15 -Oct 15
National Hispanic Heritage Month honors the culture, heritage, and contributions of
Hispanic Americans each year. The event began in 1968 when Congress deemed the
week including September 15 and 16 National Hispanic Heritage Week to celebrate
the contributions and achievements of the diverse culture within the Hispanic
Community. However, the observance was expanded in 1989 by Congress to a
month long celebration.
