Remembering Dale Sparber
By Cindy Gagne, Mayor
On May 22, 2008 Dale Sparber,
Mayor for the City of Omak passed
away. It’s hard to believe that it’s
already been a year. The groundwork for communication that he laid
and his work ethic for getting and
staying involved are the basis for
our current successes. I like to think
that Dale would be proud of the accomplishments that have been made
& that he would be delighted in the
changing of
the guard
with regard
to the retirements of
longtime
P u b l i c
Works Director Fred
Sheldon
and Nancy
Draggoo.
This city continues to be a beautiful
place to enjoy life. Dale’s legacy of
heartfelt commitment to our community is forever strong in his absence.
The Omak City Hall is accessible to persons
with disabilities. Hearing or visually impaired persons requiring special accommodations should contact the City Clerk one week
in advance of the meeting by calling 509-8261170 or emailing [email protected] in
order to be provided assistance.

PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT
SCHEDULES
The City is about to have a very busy summer with several
large projects in the works. The following is an approximate
schedule of activities, locations and estimated durations for
the projects:
East Bartlett Street Sewer Line Replacement:
This is a sewer line project, scheduled to start on June 1st,
and be completed in late July. Residents in the areas will experience construction noise, temporary street closures and
dust.
Ross Canyon Road Improvement:
This is a major construction project on Ross Canyon Road,
from its intersection with Riverside Drive, north to the Ironwood Street intersection. This project has been over two
years in the design phase, and we have finally approved the
construction contract. It is scheduled to run from June 1st
through September. It promises to be one of the most irritating as far as disrupting the normal traffic pattern for those
who use that area regularly. We can only suggest that residents plan alternative routes whenever possible, and be prepared for periodic delays during the construction process. We
ask for your patience on this project. The redesign of Ross
Canyon, which includes sidewalks, curbs and gutters, as well
as re-alignment of it’s intersection with Riverside Drive, will
be a significant improvement in terms of traffic flow and improved vision at both intersections.
Okoma Drive Sidewalk Project:
This project will begin in July and run through September.
This project is to build a sidewalk on the west side of Okoma
Drive, from 4th Avenue, south to the Jasmine Street intersection. There may be periodic traffic delays, but the adjacent
side streets will be accessible.
Eastside Park Water Main Changes:
This water main relocation project will begin after Stampede,
around mid-August, and conclude the end of October. There
will be some sporadic disruption to park services but no
planned closure of any of the athletic fields.
Sewer Treatment Plant Upgrades:
This project will run from August through December and
there will be no disruptions in service to the residents.
Public Works Director Jim Miller can be contacted for any
questions on those projects 826-1170, Ext. 115.

Water Conservation
Efficient water use is critical to a healthy and
clean environment. Fish, trees and animals depend
on wise use of our limited water supplies. Use the
following tips to save water (and money) outdoors:
Water in short repeated intervals for best absorption, especially on slopes or compacted soils.
Prevent water runoff from your sprinkler system.
To reduce evaporation, water the lawn in the
early morning or evening. Avoid watering during the
heat of the day or when it is windy.
Your watering practices should be influenced by
the weather. Decrease watering time during cool or
humid conditions and skip a scheduled watering
after a moderate rainfall.
Use a broom to clean walkways and driveways.
Do not use the hose. Watering the sidewalk, gutter
and street wastes water.
METERED IRRIGATION LINES
Most of the residential irrigation meters have been turned on
for the growing season. For Omak residents who have a separate metered irrigation for outside watering, this is just a
friendly reminder that those lines must be turned on by City
water personnel. It’s as easy as a phone call to City Hall, 8261170, there is no charge; and the crew will turn them on, at
your convenience, anytime between 7 AM and 4 PM. Additionally, when you are ready to turn off the irrigation lines in
the fall, please call us and we can schedule for shutoff between
8 AM and 5 PM. These water meters are owned and maintained by the City and, by Municipal Code, must not be turned
on or off by residents. We are only a phone call away and appreciate your respect for the equipment.
