Elephants are huge! Their size and weight
make them the biggest land animals on the
planet. An adult elephant can weigh 12,000
pounds. That’s as heavy as 240 medium-sized
dogs put together!
Adult elephants
are about 11 feet
tall. Their tusks can
grow to be 8 feet
long. African elephants
have enormous ears.
They can be 5 feet from
top to bottom.
Elephants eat a lot.
An adult elephant can eat
almost 500 pounds of plants
a day. Elephants also drink
a lot of water—50 gallons
a day!
