I hope all the students enjoy their lessons and build on their swimming and water safety skills – these are most important skills to have. School Captains Congratulations to Ellie Goss, Robyn Coles, Nick Burfitt, and Isaac Kocsis who have been selected as our School Captains for 2015. A number of Year 6’s applied for the position, preparing and delivering a speech in front of an audience of peers and staff. Based on these presentations, staff then selected the four students above. The School Captain position is a very important one representing our school at events, being positive role models for their peers and helping improve our school. Congratulations to the four chosen students and well done to all the students who applied for these positions. House Captains Congratulations to the following students who have all been selected as house captains for 2015 Knappstein Pink Ashton Maynard Georga Harris Ella Hall Shayna Kastelyn Sophie Bache Deanna Francis Luke Sandy Caleb Klingner Bodie McNeil Elizabeth Cornwell Jaxon Bird Drew Lawrie Jessica Skinner Trinity Beverdam Jackson Maynard Madeline Poole Sophie Earle I’m sure they will all do a great job leading their team, encouraging their team mates and setting a positive example for others. Team points are already being earnt in classrooms. The Swimming Carnival is next Friday, 20th February. The program for the swimming carnival was sent home yesterday, complete with lunch order forms. Please see the front office if you did not receive it. Assembly It has been most pleasing to see lots of parents attending the first two assemblies of the year. Assemblies will now start at 2:50 on Friday afternoons. All parents are welcome. Assemblies are a great chance for students to practise their public speaking skills, share the work they have been doing in their class and for awards and information to be handed out. It is great to be able to publicly acknowledge those people who are doing the right thing. We do ask that parents please keep pre -schoolers with them rather than have them, come sit on the floor with students as this can be quite distracting. Clean Up Australia Schools Day We have been asked to take part in the school’s Clean Up Australia Day on Friday 27th February. Students from Clare Primary School will be cleaning around the Skate Park and Station Road Car Park and Reisling Trail, Young Street to Alexander Avenue. If any parents are available to join a class for the clean-up during the morning, please let us or your child’s teacher know. Many hands make light work and this will help present Clare in a positive light for the many visitors attending the Master Games on the 26th—29th March and involve our students in caring for our community. Master Games Opening Ceremony Clare Primary School Students have been asked to sing the National Anthem as a part of the Master Games Opening Ceremony on Thursday 26th March. The ceremony is after school hours but we would like as many Clare Students, in full school uniform, to be involved. More details will be sent home shortly, but please put this date in your diaries. School Swimming Carnival The program and lunch order forms were sent home yesterday – please contact the front office if you require additional order forms. We do require some parent volunteers to help prepare and serve the lunch orders – if you are able to help for an hour first thing in the morning or during the lunch break, please let the school know. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated and make the day run much smoother for all. Thanks Mark Di’s DOT POINTS APP REVIEW Curious Ruler is a fun way for kids to explore measurement and scale both digitally and in a hands on way. Kids can use ‘nonstandard’ units to measure items around them. They choose their unit of measurement (eg, $1 coin), take a photo of another object and then explore how many units measure against that object. This is also a great way to explore estimation and spatial awareness. CROSSING MONITORS Week 4 2015 Well summer has finally arrived and I personally love it but for those who don’t I hope you are keeping cool! If you would like to chat with me or if I can help in any way, I am at school every day and you can either catch up with me or leave a message at Front Office and they will track me down. I also run lunchtime activities which involves sport, games, competitions and crafts and I am always keen to hear ideas you might have. Also if you have any craft items you think we could use we would gratefully accept them. Di Grigg (CPSW) Mr Gibbs/Mr Higgins Y6 Class & Miss Winders Rec Class Mr Higgins’ and Mr Gibbs’ Year 6’s have buddied up with the new Receptions in Miss Winders’ class. The classes have been doing a number of different activities in the first two weeks to help the new children feel comfortable at Clare Primary School. The children have been doing some writing and reading, finding out about each other, going to assemblies together and painting hand prints. Ella and Shayna have also helped out in the mornings with some of the younger children who feel a little uncertain about starting school. It’s good to see our oldest and youngest children developing friendships: all helping to further develop our caring positive school culture. MRS WETHERALL’s YEAR 1 CLASS The year one class working hard during their Numeracy Every morning the Year 1 & 2 Class work on Literacy. We have parent help We use the iPads We play word games 19B Mrs Murrie & Mrs Nitschke’s Class News Over the last two weeks 19B have been busy getting to know each other and learning all about ‘buckets’. With Mrs Nitschke we have been investigating numbers and how to make them. With Mrs Murrie we have been learning all about the First Fleet and European Settlement of Australia. Here are some photos of our work so far! Our class has had a busy and positive start to 2015. We have been looking at different types of letters as part of our writing program. Each of the class read a letter that Miss Rosenzweig wrote to them, learnt about how to structure a personal letter, and wrote one in return as part of our homework in the first two weeks. We also have been drafting letters of complaint to the stationary supply company that makes our pencil cases, when a number of them broke in the first week of use. We have included several examples below, and if you are interested in seeing any more, we encourage you to visit our classroom! This fortnightly news spot will be designed and put together by a student team that we will rotate each term to allow students to develop their editing and technology design skills. Class News from 20A (Ms Meek’s Yr 4/5’s) We have started the 2015 year with HIGH EXPECTATIONS. Our focus has been on the new Work Presentation expectations and everyone has been working hard to ensure that these are met. We have discussed our 2015 Class behaviour expectations and have worked collaboratively to have a wonderful set of positive rules in our classroom. We have also talked about Bucket Filling and have had some mature and thoughtful discussions about qualities of Bucket fillers and dippers. ORGANISATION has been another key area of focus. The class have all been striving to have the appropriate things with them…and our new homework folders are helping this to happen. In class 20c we have been writing bio poems in our English book and then we published them on the laptop. In Maths we have been doing activities on numbers and place value of numbers in small learning groups. Mr. Gibbs came in to our class last week and talked about buckets, Ms Kenny read us the bucket filling book and then Mr Gibbs showed us some of his classes work. We all got given a sheet of paper that had a bucket with stars shooting out of it, we had to colour it in and then we had to write our goals for the term and the things that fill our buckets.
