The 2013-14 recipient of the Les and Evelyn Riley

The 2013-14 recipient of the Les and Evelyn Riley Scholarship is Tyler Brookshire from
Reagan High School. Tyler will attend UNC- Chapel Hill this coming fall and plans to
study Biology.
The Les and Evelyn Riley Scholarship is awarded to one graduating Crosby Scholar
senior who demonstrates academic achievement by holding a cumulative QPA of 3.5 or
higher, actively participates in community service and extracurricular activities, and
clearly described the impact of a significant experience in his/her life. The Riley Scholar
is awarded a one-time $1,200 college scholarship.
Tyler Brookshire is the son of Brian and Jennifer Brookshire of Winston-Salem and
Wayne and Elizabeth Huffman of Warren, Pennsylvania.
The 2013-2014 recipient of the Fulton Carolina Medal is Caitlin Moffatt from Reynolds
High School and who will attend UNC-Chapel Hill this coming fall and will study biology
or chemistry.
The Fulton Carolina Medal is awarded annually to a Crosby Scholar who will enroll at
the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and who has shown an active and
exemplary commitment to service to others. The Fulton Scholar is awarded a one-time
$1,500 college scholarship.
Caitlin is the daughter of Anne Garvey and Dave Moffatt, who both live in WinstonSalem.
The recipient of the Mommie J Scholarship is Eliana Rodriguez, of Mt. Tabor High
School who will attend Appalachian State University in the fall.
The $1,500 scholarship is awarded to the Crosby Scholar senior who: actively
participates in extracurricular activities or part-time employment and clearly expresses
in an essay how a special friendship has helped shape his/her life.
Eliana is the daughter of Hector Rodriguez and Rosalia Rodriguez from Winston Salem.
The three winners of the Jessica Hill Davis Memorial Scholarship are:
Elizabeth Comtois of Reagan High School. She will enroll at UNC Chapel Hill and study
Communications. Elizabeth is the daughter of daughter of Ann Comtois and Maryanne
Ramondini, from Pfafftown.
Josie Hill of Reynolds High School. She will enroll at UNC- Wilmington and has an
interest in studying international business. Josie Hill is the daughter of Leslie B. Hill from
Winston- Salem.
Nathaniel Rumph, III of Reynolds High School who will enroll at UNC-Charlotte and
plans to major in Mechanical Engineering. Nathaniel is the son of Nathaniel "Chip"
Rumph, II and Carla Brown Rumph of Winston-Salem.
Winners of this scholarship must hold a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher,
enroll at a NC school, have completed the requirements of the Crosby Scholar Program
and have written an essay about how they have faced and coped with ways they differ
from others, much like Jessica’s challenges with her medical struggles. Jessica was a
Crosby Scholar who lost her battle with Cystic Fibrosis just weeks before she graduated
from high school in 2011.
