REGULATIONS UNDER THE QUARANTINE ACT 19084947.* THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth I of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Quarantine Act 19084947. Dated this day of FIFTEENTH OCTBER , 1948. Governor-General. By His Excellency's Command, Minister of State for Health. AMENDMENTS OF THE QUARANTINE (GENERAL) REGULATIONS 1935.f 1. Regulation 24 of the Quarantine (General) Regulations 1935 is ot(mDhetsehnrufdco1ilnvwbfyimag). fprah and sub-paragraphs :— " ; or (3) Thorough application of a solution, emulsion or powder containing not less than five parts per centum of dichloro-diphenyl-trichlorocthan e (D.D.T.). Where solutions or emulsions are used, the applications shall be made by thorough painting or spraying of the surfaces of all places infested or suspected of being infested with cockroaches, bugs, lice, fleas or other insects or other vermin. Where powder form is used the application shall be made by dusting or by the use of effective blowers; or (4) Such other method as is approved by the Director of Quarantine.". 2. Regulation 53 of the Quarantine (General) Regulations 1935 is-amended by omitting sub-regulations (1.), (1A.) and (2.) and insert- Fees. for fumigation or disinfectiion of vessels. The fees charged for the fumigation by means of sulphur dioxide gas of spaces on vessels, other than those spaces specified in sub-regulation (2.) of this regulation, shall be as follows:— £ s. d. For every vessel of 2,000 cubic feet of hold space or less .. 1 5 0 For every vessel of more than 2,000 cubic feet but not more than 10,000 cubic feet of hold space .. 1 17 6 For every vessel of more than 10,000 cubic feet but not more than 20,000 cubic feet of hold space 2 10 0 " (1.) * Notified in the Commonwealth Gazette on , 1948. Provided that the minimum fee for the fumigation of any vessel or portion of a vessel by means of any approved mechanical appliance worked by steam, oil or electric power, and not forming part of the equipment of the vessel concerned, shall be Four pounds. " (1A.) The fees charged for the fumigation by means of hydrocyanic acid gas of spaces on vessels, other than those spaces specified in sub-regulation (2.) of this regulation, shall be as follows :— E s. d. For the first 1,000 cubic feet of hold space, or part 'thereof 150 For each additional 1,000 cubic feet of hold space, or part thereof 19 " (2.) The fees charged for fumigation of cabins, lazarets or other enclosed spaces such as crews' quarters, chain lockers, storerooms and passengers' accommodation, by the means specified in sub-regulation (1.) or (1A) of this regulation, shall be as follows:— E s. d. For the first 1,000 cubic feet of space, or part thereof 1 5 0 For each additional 1,000 cubic feet of space, or part thereof .. 0 4 0 Provided that, where the whole of any vessel of hold space not more than 10,000 cubic feet is fumigated at one operation and by one fumigant, the charges for the fumigation of the crew's quarters or other enclosed spaces shall be covered by the fees prescribed by sub-regulation (1.) or (1A.) of this regulation, whichever is applicable. " (2A.) The fees charged for the fumigation or disinfection of vessels by means other than those specified in sub-regulations (1.) and (1A.) shall be such fees as are fixed by the Director of Quarantine having regard to the cost of such fumigation or disinfection.".
