The views from the Tourist Trail 13X bus top deck are exceptional especially through the Cuckmere Valley and around Birling Gap and Beachy Head. There are over 30 million visits to the South Downs every year. Nationally, only 1% of total distance travelled on roads is by bus*. A survey identified that over 85% of visits to the Sussex Downs were made by car. The South Downs National Park Authority has developed 18 self-guided downland trails with routes that start and finish at bus stops. The walks explore the Downs around Brighton and Hove, including Mile Oak, Hangleton, Patcham, Hollingbury, Lewes, Rottingdean and Seaford. Free leaflets including maps are available from bus information points, tourist information centres and libraries or from: South Downs National Park Authority, South Downs Centre, North Street, Midhurst, GU29 9DH Tel: 0300 303 1053 www.southdowns.gov.uk This project has been made possible with support and funding from Brighton & Hove City Council and Brighton & Hove Bus Company.
