I am currently acting Principal at Puahue School. Lois McGregor 027 616 9107 [email protected] A Rant… The joy of teaching struck me this morning. I have a cold and feel rubbish. However, I manned up and went to school. At 8:30 I went for my usual Monday morning walk around the classrooms. All I saw was happy children excited to be back at school for another week of learning and living. Seeing so many friendly, joyous faces reminded me why we do what we do. Of course, I am now back in my office with liquid dribbling from my nose onto my keyboard… Ministry of Education Property Ministry of Education Property meeting. Health and Happiness It's one of the simplest and most under‐utilised happiness boosting strategies. It's something we can all do, but few do, to double our experience of positive emotions. It is, quite simply, a strategy known as savouring and today we present you with some research that highlights how beneficial it can be for those of us wanting to enjoy life more. In short, savouring equals happiness: In 2012, the internationally renowned researcher Dr. Fred Bryant, along with researchers from New Zealand's Victoria University of Wellington, asked 101 women and men to keep diaries for 30 days. They recorded "pleasant events" and how much they savoured or squelched them. Savourers got more pleasure by stopping to focus on a good thing, telling someone else about it, or even screaming in delight or laughing. Wet‐blanket types killed the joy by carping that it could have been better, they didn't deserve it, or it was almost over. Ultimately, adept savourers got the biggest happiness boost out of pleasurable moments. Further, being good at savouring raises your spirits the most when you really need it. In a 2012 Washington State University study, people going through tough times got bigger mood boosts from savoured moments than people whose lives were packed with positive but unsavoured experiences. In the article referred to above (HERE's that link again), the following tips are recommended for savouring but we're also throwing in a few more for your reading and living pleasure... 

Anticipate how wonderful an event will be before you even get there During the situation, be present and really focus on what you're experiencing in all of your senses 
After the event, look back and reminisce about how good it was 
Boost your happiness even further by sharing the positive experience with family and/or friends 
And finally, celebrate the positives within the event in as many ways as possible. The Happiness Institute
