A Rhyming Book

A Rhyming Book
by Mrs. Frazier's
Kindergarten Class
Stony Point Elementary School
November 2005
We dedicate
this book
to
our teacher, Ms. Frazier
because…
if we do something really nice, she hugs us,
she lets us pick out of the treasure box,
she lets us have a long centers time,
we like writing in our journals and reading books,
and
we play office and build with legos,
and
our teacher, Mrs. Lam
because…
she helps us spell words and do work,
she helps us with colored folders and packing up,
and
she thanks us a lot.

How We Did It!
We like to rhyme but it’s pretty hard. Rhymes are words
(word families) that sound the same (have common sounds at
the end.) We’ve been making crazy rhymes like a dog in a log
kissing a frog.
We learned about counting syllables in a word, too. We
clap for each syllable…. dinosaur would be three claps ~ dino- saur… clap, clap, clap or donut would be two ~ do-nut.. clap,
clap.
Ms Mary Lou started singing the song, Down by the Bay.
We laughed. Colby changed the words. He sang, “Down by my
classroom, where the children grow.”
We started making up our own rhymes and thought it
would be fun to draw them. We thought we could make a
class book.
We liked the collages another class was making. We
wanted to use cut paper to make our pictures.
We drew the pictures on the back of the paper. The
paper was shiny and colorful and big and then we cut it out.
And of course, we cut with fancy scissors. We glued it on.
We liked doing it. Drawing it and cutting it out in the art
studio was fun. The whole thing was my favorite.
good job!

Down by the bay
Where the watermelons grow
Back to my home
I dare not go
For if I do
My mother will say
"Did you ever see a bear
Combing his hair
Down by the bay?"
Down by the bay
Where the watermelons grow
Back to my home
I dare not go
For if I do
My mother will say
"Did you ever see a moose
Kissing a goose
Down by the bay?"
Down by the bay
Where the watermelons grow
Back to my home
I dare not go
For if I do
My mother will say
"Did you ever see a whale
With a polka dot tail
Down by the bay?"
