The Goresbrook Gazette 27th May 2016 Attendance & Punctuality Welcome message We hope you enjoyed the Fantastic Finish today, it was great to see children showing their wonderful learning from the half-term. We welcomed our new reception cohort on Wednesday evening. It was lovely to see some of our current nursery children ready to start the next part of their Goresbrook journey. We have about 10 places for Reception 2016 remaining. Please do spread the word, and put us in touch with any families who don’t yet have a Reception place for their child. Attendance & Punctuality I urge all parents to make a real effort to ensure your child's attendance and punctuality is the best it can be for the final term of the year. Being 5 minutes late every day means that over the course of the year your child misses two and a half days of learning. Every minute matters! As you know we are now rewarding 100% attendance and punctuality on a weekly basis which gives every child a chance of a reward. Parent Survey Feedback. You said – we did Thank you to all of the parents who completed the pink forms, and attended the meeting on Tuesday this week. It’s always great to hear your positive comments; we really appreciate your support. In the spirit of Goresbrook, we also like to reflect and improve. So here are a few suggestions raised and our relevant actions. It’s been a hugely successful first half-term in our new building. Many thanks for all of your support as ever. Have a lovely half term break, Clare Issue raised by parents Home learning records: Lack of comments about project work at home Lack of comments about reading in class Car parking and other access issues at the front of school Children’s items being taken by other children and not returned to school (often despite being labelled) The outside area in Year 1 has a lack of equipment Edition 2.31 On return to school please bring in a handwritten note or complete the absence form at the front reception. This is valid for genuine illness of two days. More than two days absence requires medical proof e.g. a prescription bottle or a copy of a prescription or even the appointment card are acceptable. If your child is up and about at home then they are generally well enough to be at school. If your child is too ill to attend school please ensure you phone 0203 597 6666 as soon as possible that morning and every day that they are absent. A reminder for collection in the afternoons: If you collect your child more than 10 minutes late on three occasions in a half term, we are required to charge you £10.00. As per our policy, any further instances of lateness in that half term will incur a charge of £10.00 per occasion. Goresbrook Attendance Bears! Pedestrian gate already in place this week Our Goresbrook Attendance Bears are awarded to the class with the best attendance in each year group. Please try really hard to be here on time and be here every day, don’t let your class down! Crossings are being completed from the alley to the footpath for September Reception: School to put cones out: parents to abide by this at all times Year 1: Actions by school Following every project, you will receive a comment in the Home Learning Record Once per half-term the comments will be completed by the phonics teacher and related to reading specifically INTEGRITY! Please could all parents check that you do not have items belonging to other children at home and return them immediately. The surface of the play area will be complete by September. We are launching a fundraising target of £10,000 in order to get a range of covers, picnic benches, games areas etc. Look out for more details in the coming weeks in the Gazette, and if you know of any local companies who might want to sponsor us, please let Miss Darley or Miss Munday know. All money raised at the Summer Fair and other events next term will go to this fund. Author class 96.1% Engineer class 99.3% Exciting attendance news Well done to those children who received a blue 100% attendance and punctuality sticker for this week. Can you spot your name on the wow board? If you didn’t achieve 100% attendance and punctuality this week make it your aim next term! The Goresbrook Gazette 27th May 2016 Word of the week from Miss Rix Many thanks to the children who gave their sentences to me last week. My favourite sentence was written by Zachary in reception. He wrote: "The cuttlefish is camouflaged on top of the sea floor." What a fantastic sentence! This week's word of the week is FEROCIOUS. Can you write a sentence using the word ferocious? Bring your sentences to Miss Rix on Monday after half term. Will yours feature in the newsletter ? _________________________________________________ Uniform We understand how frustrating it is when your child loses their school uniform. Please ensure all items including water bottles are labelled. Thank you for your help to keep our children looking professional. Non-Goresbrook water bottles are not permitted, and will be confiscated. _________________________________________________ Key Dates Monday 6th June—first day of term. Please ask family and friends to collect these and pass to Miss Bone at the front reception. Once we have collected all the vouchers we will allow children to choose from a range of sports equipment which will enhance our outside areas and P.E. _________________________________________________ School entrance area & Scooters/Bikes Thank you for your help this week keeping children safe on site; it is working much better with no scooters or bikes being ridden near the gates. A reminder that children must be supervised closely by parents whilst waiting outside the school gates. The road area is a potential hazard, and the pathway is not part of Goresbrook School. Please ensure your child gets off their scooter or bike as they pass the grey security hut. After that point they need to walk alongside their scooter or bike. On leaving school/nursery please do not allow children to scoot until they reach the grey hut. Please be mindful that scooters and bikes can travel at speed and are exiting onto the main road near Goals. Please keep your children close by and do not let them go ahead of you. Children should be holding your hand at all times. Parents must hand their children directly to Nursery staff at the gate at drop off. _________________________________________________ Business Manager Vacancy With our growing school we are adding capacity to our Business Management team. Miss Munday’s enormous role is getting even bigger! So the time has come to split it into two roles. These two roles are: Business Manager and Office Manager/PA. Miss Munday will be taking the Office Manager/PA role from September, and we are therefore advertising for a Business Manager. More details on our website.
