Super Spec HP® Concrete Crack Repair Kit P72
Surface Preparation
Surface preparation is the most critical portion of any successful
flooring system application. All substrates must be properly
prepared using the following information.
Concrete must cure for a minimum of 30 days before applying floor
systems. Slabs on ground or grade must have an efficient vapor
barrier to prevent moisture vapor transmission. Test for moisture
following ASTM D-4253 Plastic Sheet Test. Proper jointing will
minimize cracking which could transmit through the coating
system. Expansion joints are treated after the coating is applied.
All unsound concrete must be repaired or replaced prior to coating
application. Cracks should be repaired prior to coating application.
®
Remove all oil, grease, or fats using Benjamin Moore Oil &
Grease Emulsifier (P83), following product directions. Remove all
curing compounds, hardeners, sealers, and laitances using
portable shot blast cleaning systems.
Epoxy floor coatings ideally bond to concrete that has a rough,
sandpaper finish, achieved either by mechanical methods or by
acid etching. Acid etching works best in preparing surfaces for thin
®
film coating systems. Use Benjamin Moore
Concrete
Pretreatment & Etch (P85) according to product instructions.
Vacuum entire floor using a heavy duty wet/dry vacuum to remove
all water or laitance removal residue from the pores or voids of the
floor.
Ecological restrictions involved with waste removal could prohibit
the use of acids or other chemical methods. Remove existing
coatings, curing compounds, hardeners, sealer, laitance, and other
foreign matter by using mechanical methods such as sand
blasting, vacuum blasting, scarifiers, Roto Peen, or vacuum shot
blasting. This operation should expose a clean, sound, porous,
roughened surface that maximizes coating adhesion.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may
release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST
CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE,
ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD
ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to
control lead exposure. Carefully clean up with a HEPA vacuum
and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself
and your family by contacting the National Lead Information
Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
Mixing Instructions
Remove all three components from the pail. Set the Part C
aggregate bag aside. Pour the entire contents of the Part A and
Part B containers into the now empty pail.
®
Caution: Do not change the mixing ratio of Super Spec HP
Concrete Crack Repair Kit (P72). Blend thoroughly for 2 minutes
using a spiral mixing blade in a variable speed (400–600 rpm)
electric drill, or use a Jiffy Mixer. Place the spiral mixing blade at
the bottom of the material before turning on the mixer to avoid
inducing air into the material while mixing, which will lead to
greater porosity in the finished mortar. Gently move the running
mixer toward the surface, but do not remove while spinning. Slowly
add the Part C aggregate to the liquid mixture in the pail. Blend
until all the aggregate is thoroughly mixed, covered, or saturated
with the liquid mixture (1 minute).
Application
Apply the epoxy/aggregate mixture immediately after mixing by
pouring the material onto the floor and spreading with a trowel
until the desired texture and thickness are achieved. When
repairing cracks or spalled concrete, apply material flush with the
surrounding floor. Excess material around a repair, once cured,
may be ground smooth with a diamond grinder or grinding stone.
For best results: Apply a test patch first to ensure compatibility.
Do not use when humidity exceeds 70% indoors. For interior use
only. If product has been frozen, allow to completely warm up to
70° F before using. A vapor barrier must be used beneath the
substrate to be coated to prevent loss of adhesion. For best
®
adhesion, prime first with Super Spec HP Fast Dry Epoxy Floor
®
Sealer/Finish (P41) or Super Spec HP Concrete Crack Repair
Kit (P72) A & B only. If priming with P72 A & B, the repair mortar
should be applied while primer is still “wet.”.
Thinning/Cleanup
DO NOT THIN.
Clean all equipment immediately after use with Super Spec HP
Epoxy Thinner (P95).
USE COMPLETELY OR DISPOSE OF PROPERLY. This product
contains components which may cause adverse affects to the
environment if handled improperly. Dry empty containers may be
recycled in a can recycling program. Local disposal
requirements vary; consult your sanitation department or
state-designated environmental agency on disposal options.

CAUSES SEVERE EYE AND SKIN BURNS. HARMFUL OR
FATAL IF SWALLOWED. SEVERE ASPIRATION HAZARD.
HARMFUL IF ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN. VAPORS MAY
AFFECT CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM CAUSING DIZZINESS,
HEADACHES AND NAUSEA, MAY CAUSE ALLERGIC SKIN
REACTION
IMPORTANT: Designed to be mixed with other components.
Mixture will have hazards of both components. Before opening
packages, read all warning labels. Follow all precautions.
NOTICE: Repeated or prolonged exposure to organic solvents
may lead to permanent brain and nervous system damage.
Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling
vapors may be harmful or fatal.
Use only with adequate ventilation. Do not breathe vapors or
sanding dust. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wear
chemical resistant goggles and face shield, chemical resistant
gloves and protective clothing during application and cleanup. Do
not wear contact lenses. Open doors, windows or use other
means to ensure fresh air entry during application and cleanup. If
you experience eye watering, headache or dizziness or if air
monitoring demonstrates vapor levels are above applicable limits,
wear an appropriate, NIOSH approved, properly fitted respirator
during use and cleanup. Follow respirator manufacturer’s
directions for respirator use. Do not permit anyone without
protection in the painting area. Wash thoroughly after handling.
Close container after each use.
FIRST AID: If affected by inhalation of vapors or sanding dust,
remove to fresh air. In cases of eye contact, flush immediately
with copious amounts of water holding eyelids open for at least 15
minutes and call a physician immediately; for skin, remove
contaminated clothing and flush affected area with water for at
least 15 minutes. In case of ingestion, DO NOT INDUCE
VOMITING, get medical help immediately.
IN CASE OF: FIRE — Use foam CO2, dry chemical or water fog.
SPILL —Absorb with inert material and dispose of as specified
under “Clean Up”.
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN
Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet for
additional health and safety information.
